Boat insurance

Hello all,
I am buying a 25 foot Parker that I will keep on a trailer in Dana Point. I plan on trailering on a pretty regular basis to Baja. I have done this multiple times in the past with other boats, although I have not trailered a boat down in the past 5 years.

My question is this:
I am looking to insure the boat (value around $80K). I would prefer to have one policy that covers me while trailering to Baja and while I am here in the States. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Others will chime in but here is what I do;
Progressive covers my boat in the states and in Baja. However, the liability portion is not in force in MX. My MX auto insurance covers the liability portion WHILE BEING TOWED ONLY if I list it on the auto policy at a zero value. The auto policy premium stays the same.
If you are wanting liability while on the water or launching in MX, then you will have to purchase that directly from a MX company. Note that Progressive has a 25 continuous-day limit SOB. If your trip is more than that, you will lose coverage.

Progressive has been doing this for at least 10 years. However, they have been starting to put limits on the number of days. Too many losses for those that keep their boats in Baja year-round. Gee, no kidding....

....yeah,I guess they're willing to insure so long as you're staying with,and actively insuring the boat.
.........road coverage is quite something in itself,driving hazards and all,,,,,
,,,,,,not so worried on the water!!

I just got my renewal for my boat which i keep in la paz and looks like the mexican laws changed where now you do not need a seperate liability from a mexican insurer and your us insurance covers the boat. I use zurich for marine insurance.

For the car, i use fireman's fund insurance and i was able to add the mexico coverage (rider) year round for no cost.

That is only part of the information. No auto policy, covers liability for vehicles or boats while south of the border. You have to have a Mexican policy to do that. Because the liability limits have been raised it is now smarter to upgrade to 300,000 instead of the old 100,000. If you hit someone, you will not have enough coverage any more with the 100,000.

An American company, like Progressive, can cover the comprehensive portion, which would mean replacement or theft, but they can not legally cover the liability.
