Towing a boat to L.B.

Iam going to be bringing my buddies 22ft panga down in a couple of weeks. We will be crossing at Tecate. I have been told we have to get a permit or something to bring it down. Any information like where do I get it and what paperwork do I need. Any Info is greatly appreciated.

You can do it online and they will mail to you from what I understand....
There is a link on Bloodydecks if I remember correctly. I'll go look around and see if I can find it....

You should have a temporary import ($50) good for 10 years. L.B. (Los Barriles?)

I think the boat permit you are referring to stopped being required about 10 years ago. I simply show them my registration at the border so they can ensure it was not stolen. Once you get to your destination you need to get a temporary import permit as grizzlyfsh95 stated above.

Make sure that the boat and trailer are included in your MX insurance policy or your whole policy could be voided.

Boat Permit

Got friends here that have boats that some return with the boats to USA and some leave them here in Baja.

Found this on the "Official Baja Tourism" websites FAQ's.

"4. Do I need a permit for my boat?

Since the 1st. of January of 2008, you are not required to purchase a boat permit, enjoy your trip down Baja California."

I have emailed them for clarification  .?

That is referring to the former "fishing" boat permit, which is no longer required. But the temporary importation permit IS still required in most areas.

Exactly, and at $50 for 10 years it is a bargain!

There is a thread on Bloodydecks about this topic. Some marinas and storage facilities want to see the boat permit before they will let the boat in apparently. For $50, I'm gonna be getting one for my boat.

I didn't get my TIP when crossing the border in TJ on my way to La Paz. Got it a year later at the office in Pichiligue. No problems getting it at that time at that place. Also, I didn't disclose that I had brought it to La Paz a year earlier and they didn't ask. That was my experience, anyway.
