Suggestions for Insurance For Dual Citizens living in Mexico??
I know there have been some discussions on insurances available in Mexico but looking for specific insurance that Mexican citizens can purchase.
Looking for something they can get if they have no work history to qualify for social care in Mexico. This is for a female living on mainland that is
related and wanting to get her started on some type of insurance so she can go to a hospital instead of just a clinica when something serious comes up

Everyone is eligible for Seguro Popular, which is Mexico's answer to Obamacare only much cheaper. You or your relative can google up Seguro Popular
and find the office closest to her where she can do the application process. They are supposed to do a health intake and a financial intake, but some
offices are doing the shortcut and not charging for coverage. Even though some offices do charge fees for signing up, the fees are pretty small and
are normally affordable. It will all depend on the office where she signs up.
Coverage is a good start, but there are some limitations as to what is covered. It does a good job for basics, lab tests, exams, some prescriptions,
and the like, but can not always be counted on for more serious problems. I have a friend who lives in our small village who developd bowel cancer
and needed surgery to cut out the affected section of bowel. He kept getting the run around from the La Paz hospital and when we did a fund raiser to
cover parts of the surgery, he magically got taken care of right away.

Thanks for the information and I will check it out. If there is a supplemental type insurance we could help her pay we would like to know about it and
then that would allow her to get hospital care if the need arose sometime in the future. Take Care & Travel Safe---"No Hurry, No Worry, Just

You might want to check out IMSS also. They do an open enrollment once or twice a year, will let people join after a medical, but do not provide
major coverage for the first two years. Thereafter, things are covered completely after deductible. You do have to go to IMSS hospitals and they
give you a book where you keep a record of all your visits and treatments.
Almost all plans provide some coverage and my experience with the system is that a lot of people carry either IMSS or Seguros Popular and then pay to
see a private physician when appropriate.

Pescador, did you hear about the 70 year old American woman that lived on mainland Mexico and felt it was wrong to take from the Mexican government so
she was paying a private Mexican cardiologist, until she realized it was too expensive and moved back to the US. I am sure she started using
Medicare...so wasn't this a contradiction about taking health care from the government?
