Gophers!
We have tried water, chewing gum, smoke bombs and have only had some luck with traps.

Our best gopher exterminator is the mother of one of our friends. Somehow she knows how to encourage them to come up, and WHACK, she gets them with a shovel. Unfortunately, she lives in San Ignacio so she is not here every time the gophers visit.

We never use poison because of our dogs and other dogs and other animals. We really don't like killing the gophers, if they would only stay out in the dunes!

Old-time trick for getting rid of gophers.

Drop a few laxatives down the holes. You'll soon have them on the run.

HAH! Nothing like a good chuckle with morning coffee.

BUT IT WORKS...really, it does.

I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Gophers? I use aluminum phosphide. Buy it at a chemical place in Maneadero. [lots of poisons available in farming towns]
The big tablets come in in an aluminum tube just like cigars a long time back.
They work.......without question.

one of our locals takes a beer bottle partially full of gas and sticks in the hole and leaves it. Doesn't kill them but drives them away (probably not good for the environment). I tried it and they popped up 10 foot (albeit further) away.

someone else swears by a flare stuck in the hole

There's probably no shortage of urban folklore concerning this topic......which prompts me to ask, what's up when people put plastic gallons of water around their lawn? They say it keeps the dogs away.
Or, little plastic bags of water hanging around the patio to keep flys away?
Am I supposed to believe this stuff? I'm not very country so I don't know.

Excuse the hijack, but it was time.
