Yup, we got one to replace the Land-Line our (former) cable company provided. We used one at Shari's too, to call family in San Diego (it was a local
call, lol).

I have a magic jack number in my ipad and a magic jack plus to replace a land line. I have used my ipad all around the world from Bali to Honduras and
it works great. It does need a fairly high speed wireless connection. The calls are free to the US because it has a USA number and also it will
accept phone calls to that number. When you set it up you probably need a US address.

I set my Magic Jack ($29.99 per year) up at my Oregon home, and it works perfectly when we call an Oregon area code number and the phone rings at the
"fishin' shack" in Loreto! (as long as the computer is on......)
The new "Magic Jack Plus" (59.99 per year) doesn't need to be plugged into the computer, just into a wall jack with a land line.......
We love that thing.....I bet Carlos Slim doesn't!

The MagicJack Plus has to be connected directly into a modem using a Cat5 cable and then a phone line from a wall jack is plugged into it. It has to
have direct internet access.
It needs to be "registered" in a US city and have a US phone number assigned to it. However, this can all be done via computer from Baja.
I just did it. A friend brought the MagicJack down, I plugged it into a computer, went thru the registration process, unplugged it from the computer,
and connected it to the TelCel modem.
Instant US phone line. People call a US number and it rings here. Added a two handset cordless phone/message machine so it works anywhere within
range of the phone's base station. It's great!

Ok, here is the best of Magic Jack info
1. Get the Magic Jack Plus It doesn't require a computer and can be hooked to the back of your cable modem/dsl modem or router or switch and it
connects to a power supply and then into your phone (corded or cordless)
2. Get a Google Voice account. With Google voice you can give all of your friends your google voice number and in you Google voice account settings
you have many options. i.e., you can have a voice mail for any phone number that you want for as many as you want. So you can have a voice mail just
for your mom and another for your boss.
3. Phone number forwarding. You can have any or all of your phones ring when someone calls your Google Voice number.
Google Voice and Magic Jack Plus, a great combo.
