I shot my self in the foot!
From my early recollections,travelling to BAJA in SEMANA SANTA,(Easter week),is a big "NO",from crowded beaches to long waits at the army check
points,I promisse my self not to do it again so I always plan my vacation a week before SEMANA SANTA.I have been doing this for a while,so what
change? I ask,while checking my departure days from March 22 to march 30 I notice that this year SEMANA SANTA was change to March 24 to March
30th..!WHAT!,why I wasn't informe about this changes I thought this holly dates never change,so I did some internet search, I found out that I got to
thank the full moon for this!..You ask the MOON?,exactly my thoughts,as it happens the firts full moon after Spring has began it dictates the dates
for SEMANA SANTA, so their it is...the moon screw up my plans.
I don't want to sound stupid,but Im still thinking on going,so whats your input on this..I still remember POMPANOS photos of Bahia Concepcion in
SEMANA SANTA,people on top of people, plus I also live that experince once and did not enjoy it..
LA PURISIMA area will have to wait for next year....

It's best to just HUNKER DOWN AT HOME!!!. I NEVER go anywhere during Easter week. Everywhere is just so crowded you can't enjoy anything......

I hunker down for that week too. The last few years at the camp beach in Punta Chivato have been really calm. But now we have a pretty good road in
and the restaurant is open and Hotelito is open too. Still a dry camp, no heads or water and nearest store is in Palo Verde.
Bahia Concepcion where life starts...given a chance!

Samana Santa means fill your vehicles with fuel a week before, get money from the ATM a week before, make sure your propane bottles are full, etc etc
etc. And the biggie is, stay the hell out of town. The sewers generally overflow, the place stinks, and wear shoes when walking around. Don't swim on
the beaches, or walk on them for at least a week after the holiday. Let nature and the clean up people do their thing prior to going back to normal
living in San Felipe.
Why do Liberals insist and demand that achievers pay the way for nonachievers who are to lazy to succeed, or are just failures by their own choice?

You've got some thin skin if you're going to cancel vacation over this. Rush hour traffic in San Diego is worse than any military checkpoint. As for
camping, I can point to miles of deserted beaches. Just let me know. I'll be taking my kids down soon despite all the reported dangers...

And yet there is a flip-side...
One year, in Concepción an extended family moved in with multiple huge tents right in front of my rig. I no sooner stepped out to marvel at what sight
I woke up to then I was invited to partake in desayuno with la familia. They were from Tijuana. Around sixteen adults and children. La Abuela, forbade
me eat alone in my rig, I was commanded to attend food and festivities with the family, like a long lost cousin.
Oh hell yes. Skyrockets. Roaring ATV and buzzing water skimobiles. twenty different songs roaring all at once, squealing children running up and down
the beach, and the frenzy went on into the early morning hours. It was a zoo. The lads gathered the goodies for a Sopa de Siete Mares, which was
superb. Handmade tortillas, chatter, gossip, hugs from the kids. And the obligatory tours of my rig. Exchanging of gifts and sadness when Sunday came
and they had to leave. God I was exhausted.

We'll be at one of the Bahia Concepcion beaches during Semana Santa and yes we know what we're getting into. Hopefully and probably there will be some
(maybe 1000 or so) nice folks camped around our RV. We're staying until it gets too hot, hopefully we can make it until June. So we'll have plenty
time to enjoy almost empty quiet beaches. It's going to start out with a week long party though.

The beaches are packed Cat...but La Purisima & Comondu wont be...there will be a few more folks than usual but most people go to the
beaches...Asuncion empties out during semana santa...ghost town material then!
I always wondered why the dates were different every year...moon eh...who'da guessed?

You might be right Shari,but my companions don't like the idea of going throught all over again..belive me I want to go so bad,but my last exp.I din'd
enjoy people racing on the beach all the drinking and loud music also,check points take longer than usual,the problem with the food and gas supply
not only that ,but vendors increase their prices becuase of the holyday,,so I will pass this year,La Purisima will have to wait till next time,sorry
about the wine bottles..I will check next time for Semana Santa dates, i didn't know they change with time...

Too bad you can't explore some part of Baja that isn't affected by crowds... Think it will be too hot to look for the Lost Diaz Grave? Ken Cooke and
company will be making dust very near the area to search as they drive on part of the 1942 Pole Line Road during Easter ('er Spring) Break. Easter
usually happens in April, but every few years it happens in March, like this year.

Look, I call it as I see it, this is among the lamest stories I have ever heard. Semana Santa is not a bad time to travel, you just need to choose
your destination and travel time. IF you like crowds go to toward the crowds if you don't head away from crowds. Oftentimes the traffic is the
lightest ever, just don't travel long distance on the 1st or second to last day of the holiday. It's possible to choose places that are empty and not
affected it is also possible to enjoy the people and fun. Sorry Cat but this story really is super lame. Why don't don't you add to this with the
story about how tequila sucks cause it makes you feel young and beaches are too sandy, the water is too warm, or salsa is too hot and people are too
friendly.

I guess you've never been on a southern California beach or jersey shore or lake havasu on july 4th...now those are crowds
here its only thurs thru sunday...that's it...
the bad day to travel north is sun (easter)
figure a 5 hour wait at the border ...at least

not to mention the military check points which can be backed up for miles too...we got caught at the san ignacio one a couple years ago...never again.
