Tecate to Mexicali - Toll Road?

Text

Just wondering how you all think the toll road is from Tecate to Mexicali? Probably going to take it down to San Felipe for this coming spring break trip. Heard it's good and cuts the time a bit. Thoughts? Thanks!

Have taken the toll road from Tecate to Mexicali numerous times and it is good. The only thing I do not like about it is how the semi trucks drive on it, as some are going way too fast for the curves. It is well marked and has turn outs you can stop at on the way up and down the mountains to take pictures if you so desire on your first trip on the toll road.

You will also see the big pipe line that takes the Water from the Colorado River in the Valley up those same mountains all the way to T.J. I seen that water line back in the 80s break and the pressure of the water shooting out was clearly seen from the old highway 98. Just unreal how much water is pushing through that pipe line. It took several days for them to get it fixed.

With the new East Port Opened off of the I-8 getting to San Felipe is easy, so the I-8 would be faster. However, if you just want the experience of taking the drive on the toll road just be aware there are a lot of curves coming down these mountains into the Valley.
