Car rental in Loreto
Hello Again:
For our trip to Mulege in June we will need to rent a small car. Can I get the run down from some experienced travelers about the process? Does
insurance really triple the cost? We will need the car for 7 days. Any and all help is welcome.
Gracias, Brian

I remember car rentals in Loreto as a huge ripoff. May have changed since '79.

A lot has changed in Loreto since 1979!
I would also recommend calling Rudolfo at

Haven't actrually had to use a rental car here lately, but we have at least four different rental companies now in Loreto, mostly for Loreto Bay
people, so I would hope that the competition would help the pricing a bit. I do remember a few years ago that the prices were really high for the
little disposable cars that they rent.

Thanks to all! I wasn't sure whether to arange something online, ie Budget ect. or to call down to Loreto and deal directly. I will call Rudolfo and
hear what he has to say. How's the fishing in Mulege in June?

A weekly rate should be cheaper than daily - yes, insurance at least doubles the cost, but still reasonable if your daily rate is like $12 or
something for an economy car. Be sure to inspect the car and note ALL scratches and dents before you leave the lot - notate on the diagram. I
consider it the overall cost of the vacation - charge it and worry about it later! An online reservation and rate lock should be helpful. Check the
tires and be sure you have a spare and a jack.

for sure, I would just wait to make reservations, that way you can inspect and maybe change your mind,,
we made reservations one time in Cabo,, what a mistake that was we ended up going thru about 4 different cars before we found on even remotely safe
and suitable
