Bank Cards not working

Why are my debit cards not working all of a sudden at the ATMs in GN and Vizcaino? They worked in Ensenada but not further south. Has anyone had a similar surprise?

Get ahold of your bank, they might have put a hold on your account, after they saw that it was used in Ensenada, Mexico...I always inform my bank that I am traveling in Mexico for six months or so, to eliminate that problem. Also, Debit cards from Canada with the "CHIP" might not work down here either or at least at some banks...

I have been using them for several months here at the Bancomer but just recently they stopped working. There has never been a problem with my banks and the debit cards. I will give them a call however to check that they have not had a change of policy. Thanks

Bank Card

I used mine in San Diego a couple weeks ago to make a rather large Purchase. When I returned home to Ensenada there was a message on the phone to call their Card anti fraud number.
It' Good that they watch.

A little off topic, but has anyone used the Telecomm Telegrafos offices to transfer money from the U.S. to BCS. It would seem to be valuable for people living in towns with no ATMs.

Thanks Blanca, we will be in BA another month so maybe everything will be normal at the banks after the holidays. We may pop over to visit with you anyway. Are you planning a trip to BA anytime soon? We'd love to see you.

Had a simmilar problem with a card that was not used for 3 months. They lock it up for your safety but a pain when it happens.

IIRC... last time in Ensenada it was more than 30 pesos in HSBC. Another bank on that plaza, Scotia bank, simply didn't react to my chipped debit card at all. Probably what others said - some ATM don't read card with chips.

Thanks to all but I know all these things. I've spent a lot of time over years at ATMs in Baja using a variety of bank cards but the last couple times none of my cards worked. It may be a new anti-Canada thing :). I will start calling around in a few days after the holidays and see what is going on.

My Scotia Bank debit card from Mexico wouldn't work in Canada even though Scotia's headquarters are there.
Turnabouts are fair play.
