Tequila blanco for Maragritas?

The cheaper the better, can't really taste the difference with all the other ingredients. Hangover might be worse the next morning...

It doesn't need to be Blanco. I always thought a perfect place for Cuervo Gold was in a blender.

I am leaning strongly towards Cazadores Tequila Blanco. $20 per 750ml bottle at Bevmo. What is the cost in Ensenada or Tijuana?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I have my own favorite sipping Tequilas, just not a maggie man myself.

Thanks for your input.

Congratulations on the nuptials!

Cazadores is a good choice and a good value. Not sure what they get for it at Don Pistos.

Herradura makes a Silver (aged 45 days), Reposado (11 months), Añejo (2 years)and the Seleccion Suprema (4 years). They also produce El Jimador tequila.

Herradura is a brand. They make anejos, repos, and jovens. Maybe the king of the smokey tasting tequilas, next to Corralejo.

You might be in luck, Jorge. My former wine source in CA has a closeout on a pretty good blanco tequila called..............EL AMO!! Perfect for a wedding, eh, with that name? 80 proof (many arent, these days), double distilled, 100% agave (but probably not 100% blue agave). Many blancos arent.

They originally sold this tequila for 22.99, but they are closing it out at 13.99. The website shows 16-750ml bottles left.

El Amo

Winex is easy to order online and check the "pick up in the store" option and they will hold it till you are up in the area. Or give em a call with a credit card. THEY ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST SOURCE FOR WINES AND SPIRITS IN OC!! Especially wines. Yes, I am a fan of Total Wine, now that I live in Mexico and make runs up to Phoenix. But Winex still beats TW in price and usually selection. It's in Orange near the 55/91 interchange. Off at Nohl Ranch road.

Actually, if Jim Walker still works there and still lives in Dana Point, I'd say you can probably get delivery free. He's worked there a long time. Used to live on the other side of the creek behind Costco and the Ford dealership.

Give them a call, amigo. This could work out.

And if you give me a reason to be in SJC in May, I'll bring some good sipping tequilas up.

Use Jose Cuervo Gold. No sense in spending a lot of money on a quality tequila in a flavored mixed drink like a Margarita that will mask the subtleties of tequila flavor in that it has much sugar and lime and possibly orange liqueur. If you want to get a great flavor, spend some money on Damiana Guaycura liqueur and float some of that on top of your Margarita...you'll be able to taste that.

Sausa Hornitos or Milagro is the best. Blanco only for margs.

The article mentions sweet and sour mix. No credibility.

Sure it is. Anyone has to agree that the palatability of a Margarita depends more on the mix...Sweet 'n Sour, Lime Juice or whatever one is using, than the Tequila.
I made Margaritas for fifteen years as a bartender in Newport Beach and have conducted every experiment imaginable.

Totally agree that it's not the Tequila. Have been using El Jimador for past couple of years and everyone agrees on the quality of the Margaritas. Of course the recipe is the real clincher. I use the 1 : 1 : 2 formula. 1 part fresh lime juice, 1 part Controy, 2 parts Tequila. Then a dash of sweetner. You'll need to substitute Triple Sec for Controy in the US as it's almost impossible to find. Good luck.

With Lee, Sauza Hornitos.

Really though this requires a blind test and I say somewhere off Interstate 5 near the Tj border crossing...everyone brings their best shot, winner takes all the open bottles home!

Well, I firmly believe that silver or blanco tequila is fine, especially for a party. We made five gallons of Margs for a friends party in san felipe last call and it was great
We used a ball jar as our measuring tool.

We were in san felipe twice in the past month and we bought El Jimador 950ml blanco for $95p during the Baja 250 at Calimax

This week we bought Azul repesado 950ml for $112p

Granted both times they were on sale and that was not the regular price

I agree with your recipe, and with having elevated blood sugar I have come up with a few changes

1. Lime juice is actually good to help keep blood sugar from spiking

2. I found a sugar free orange flavor simple syrup at a local wines and more store

3. I use diet sprite or 7 up libre in Mexico

I have made full sugar and my diet version and they are both great!
