Accomidations are pricey. If your flying into la paz just get a rental car, it's not that far of a drive. The restaurant at the bay is excellent and
is usually empty for breakfast. You can arrange for a boat with one of the guys at the lauch area or you can do that in la paz also. You'll see the
vans from the outfitters there.
If you want to pay for the full blown luxury that's up to you, but for the money, you can get to the bay in short order from la paz and get to see
more than just a fancy hotel and a bay. Much more to see and do around la paz and blow your big bucks on.

Check out La Ventana, that would put you reasonably close.

Before the marketing folks changed the name, it was Bahia de los Muertos:

1965 era map
(the black line was our route of travel in 1966, pavement ended 10 miles south of La Paz.)

You know how it goes here, David. BN is like a tidal zone with its lows and its highs. People come and people go. The sandbox is constantly
changing.
oooops....I'm out of metaphors.

Love your maps, David. This one reminded me of the ferry we took out of Pichilingue, La Paz to Topolobompo in early '70's (Salvatierra). When we got
home we read that the very same ferry sank with all the cars on it. I think all the people made it off, but what a mess that was. Keep the maps
coming.

Welcome to BN where the residents are wild and wooly and full of fleas!
There is a new, very small boutique hotel in El Triunfo, it was open in February. El Triunfo is a wonderful place to spend some time in. The town is
being revitalized by arts-minded folk and the history of the area is very interesting. There is a great restaurant there. The hotel name escapes me
(it's just down from the art gallery) but it would make a nice stop and an easy drive from San Antonio to the coast.
There is also another option called Rancho La Venta not farther along towards San Bartolo. It is a beautiful place in the mountains on a historic
property. I have met the owners and toured the ranch and winery and recommend it. Fantastic mountain views and very quiet.
Rancho la Venta
Not aware of less expensive options as we stay in our RV. As you get closer to the East Cape, prices climb. If you're staying longer, consider VRBO.
Have a good trip,
W

The moon website has excellent info on most sites of THE Baja. On this link provided....you will see a list of services at the left of the page...it
has surrounding area info also. Nice that there is a price range list for accommodations.
For current maps that are updated of the area you wish to visit: http://www.moon.com/maps
Also...provides decent history and maps of non Americanized but true Baja callings.
:..........The dark name of this pretty bay dates back to the 18th century, but its exact origins are unknown. At least two later incidents in history
validated the name: In 1885 a Chinese ship landed and lost a crew of 18 to yellow fever after port authorities in La Paz refused to admit the ship.
And in the early 1900s, when a group of farmers from the United States attempted to cultivate the land around the bay, the effort for some ended in
starvation."

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

month.

The use of muerto is not always in regard to a dead person. Old timers in the area have to me that there used to be moorings for ships offloading the
ore from Triunfo in the bay (part of the dock is still there). Another translation of muertos is the deadweight holding the mooring on the bottom of
the water. (http://www.proz.com/kudoz/spanish_to_english/ships_sailing_m...). Historically it makes sense, paticularly since Muertos Bay is used by cruisers
as a safe anchorage going to and from La Paz and mainland Mexico and can be quite crowded. It's too bad so many of our historical place names are
sanitized and therefore meaningless.

As I recall Bahia de Los Muertos was named for a mishap. Some extranjeros wandered into the area, became disoriented from the heat, and perished.
I think they should have kept the name. Suenos sounds like something a real estate promoter would come up with.

One should use the Moon Travel books with caution. There is lots of false and missing information both in the Baja one and the one for the Mainland.
And it is not just because things can change quickly, it is just mis-information. One of the authors of the Baja book also has no problem with just
using other people's photos without permission, until she gets caught!
But, it can be used, just with caution.

TripAdvisor seems to be a lot more reliable than the ever-out-of-date Moon book.
