Baja Bus up Mex 1
Hello ladies and gentlemen. We will be fishing at San Lucas Cove next month, and a couple of my friends may have to cut the trip a little short and
take the bus from Santa Rosalia up to Tijuana for about $80.00. If they can not get someone to pick them up at the border, is there a bus service
that can take them from Tijuana up to Oceanside? We're trying to get all the logistics figured out before we go; we usually wing it, but any info
would be appreciated. Are the buses pretty safe?

take the trolley at the border for like $2.50 and transfer at the Santa Fe Depot in downtown Sandy Eggo and hop the surfliner to O Fricken Side.

Trolly
Looks like the trolly might be a good option. I think it goes all the way to Ocean Side.

Busses are safe and comfortable. Busses used to drive maniacally, but now seem to drive sane speed. Must have changed driver compensation structure,
eh?
Ditto on taking trolley and train.

do what Woody says it is a snap and you can get from ensenada to the santa fe in about 3 hours, about 3 less than driving because you dont need to
wait at the border.

How far is it from the bus station in Tijuana to the border where they will walk across? I assume that it will be a cab ride.

FYI.........
There is also a Greyhound station right up the street from the downtown trolley station, America Plaza.
The Gray Dog goes everywhere.

You'll have to find out which "End of the line" their bus uses. There are two....the downtown station and the garita [Frontera] station which is at
the border.
If downtown [or wherever it is] is the end, they'll have to get another ride to the border. It's not a short distance.

Yes.....that's the one that goes to the line. Maybe it's called La Linea instead of Frontera....I don't remember, and my references are about the
Ensenada bus station.
Just don't go downtown if there is a choice.
The border station is small and not all busses go to it.

It's $110 from Sta Rosalia to Tijuana now. Was $80 maybe 2-3 years ago.
ABC/Aguilla bus usually arrives to "Tijuana Central" bus station, which is not quite in Tijuana, but closer to Otay district. You can't walk to the
border from there, and it takes about 30 minutes and $0.80 (10 pesos) by regular transit bus to get to the border crossing in San Ysidro if you have
to. I usually take Greyhound bus from that "Tijuana Central" station to San Diego, it stops at San Ysidro.

Yes. For one person it is easier and faster to take a bus on that route, than driving. Also, cheaper, if you consider at least 2 nights in motel.

Thanks Alm... a cab ride to the border or the Greyhound bus will be the ticket for this trip. Thank you all for your help.

Greyhound bus is also called Cruceros on that Tijuana Central station. Don't know why. There is still blue Greyhound logo on the wall, and waiting
room with blue coaches (separate area from the other public), where the bus departs from. And, as I recall, both Greyhound and Cruceros signs over the
cashier window which is not anywhere near that blue waiting room, but hey, this is Mexico. Greyhound costs $10 to San Diego downtown, same price to
the border crossing at San Ysidro (aka "frontera"), but they are not very frequent now - maybe once every hour. Cab is about $20 to the frontera.
Oh yeah, and they cancel this or that bus in Sta Rosalia from time to time  ...
When they are about to cancel it, they won't sell a ticket on that time. 15-16 hours ride, so the buses that depart at 4 pm and 6 pm, arrive at 7 am
and 9 am. In the past there used to be a schedule posted at every station, not anymore. I think only in Vizcaino I saw the schedule. 4 pm bus might
show up in St Rosa at 5 pm, because again, this is Mexico. There is also 7 am bus, and it arrive to Tijuana at 10 pm. Other buses leave St Rosalia at
weird time in the middle of the night.

The Trolly goes from San Ysidro to San Diego... where you transfer onto the other trainline 'Amtrak' or the 'Coaster' to Oceanside. Otherwise the bus
is available.
