What is the best vacuum sealer?
For smoked fish and what not. And how long will smoked fish last vacuum sealed and frozen?

Vacum Sealer
We bought a Seal A Meal from Wall Mart been using it for a couple years never used it for Fish but we put Shrimp up and it last all year.

I have been using a Foodsaver V2490 for a few years and it works just fine for me...get some spare gaskets though just in case one gets damaged...and
heavy duty bags help food last longer but our smoked fish last more than a year frozen.

If you're really serious about keeping your food in good condition , get a chamber vac.
Can't beat them, especially for fish.

You can seal dry food as well as wet food, such as soups and sauces.
You merely put the bag with the food in the tray, and in about 8 seconds you have a sealed bag!

All I can add is vacuum packing coffee is a loser using bags, but much less so using glass jars*. I even tried double sealing the coffee beans, but
they lost a lot of flavor.
*Vacuum seal the bags then stuff the bags into airtight glass jars, and screw the lid down tight.

After many years and many pounds of fish, I have given up on the Foodsaver type of vacuum bagger. Seems like they last a year or two at max and then
I go buy another. I bought this one, have used it over 5 years and never a glitch. It also seals wet much better than any of the others. I have a
good friend in Alaska who uses his commercially and has 8 seasons on it.

I noticed in the reviews that some
complained that the Weston bags were of poor quality and tended to leak and that this would not work with the Foodsaver bags. Just curious as to what
your experience with this has been? It looks like a quality product compared with the Foodsavers which I find quirky and not that durable.
