Exede vs. Hughes Gen 4 satellite internet
Anyone have any experience with Exede satellite internet or any basis to compare it to Hughes Gen 4? The advertised speeds (see links) are way faster
than my current Starband setup, but I'm wondering about range SOB (Baja Norte) and reliability.

DanO, I cannot address the Baja coverage, but I do have a Hughes Gen4 at my cabin. I am impressed with the speed; it is almost as fast as my in-town
connection. Since upgrading to the Gen4 I have never exceeded my daily allocation… the old system, I exceed my limits quite often. JH

Those speeds and bandwidth really blows starband away. The only thing I have heard about new satellite services is that some of them are "spotbeamed"
to your subscribed address. Check with Exceed and ask them if it is possible to move the system after it is installed. If you can move it let me know
I would be interested also.

We have excede just below Mexicali and it works great. I was told that it is spot beam and san Felipe is very close to being outside of the beam. I
was told that they are always getting more area so it would be worth a check. Wildblue will tell you they do not work in baja so you should check with
a distributor. I have not used gen 4 but I like not having a daily allowance. Our speed is amazing. I have checked it with speedtest.net and seam to
be getting about 7-8 mbps which is way better than the cox we had in the states.
Good luck Mick
Getting there is ALL the fun!
Ok being here is fun to

Thanks all. I'm arranging to have both systems brought down, so if Exede doesn't work, I can have the Hughes Gen 4 installed instead and get a refund
on the Exede system setup fee. Will report back.

Bob...SATMEX 5 aka 117W was the best thing going on for the last 10 years! I have cancelled my mobile SAT systems running off our trucks up and down
the Peninsula and going a different route.

I have heard that Huges is going to tighten the spot beam when I was considering them in San Felipe. However, I was able to get WiMax in SF and it is
cheap and seems to work well.
