Jap crap????
My PRIUS just went over the 490,000 miles.
I have had two recalls:
A steering knuckle, and a water pump. Both cost me zero and the dealer gave me a rental. Last year the factory issued a recall on the odometer control
unit and they gave me a new one at no charge and gave a rental for three weeks. Now the odometer show a mileage of $8,000 miles.
I replaced the hybrid battery about a year ago...I bought one from a junk yard in Fontana, Ca. which cost me $500.00. The car had 32,000 miles on it
from which I purchased the battery, so I had to take it to the dealer to sinch-up the two ECU's (the car has one and the battery also has one, and
both have to register the same miles). So now I have a car that thinks it has about 20K miles. (except that the dealer instaled a new odometer
module). I did also replace the 12V start battery and a heater control solenoid.
It burns about 4 oz. of oil between oil changes. I have always used 5-20 synthetic oil in the engine, and every tankful I put in two oz. of fuel
additive.
Both of my FJ Cruisers have been outstanding off-road vehicles. With the upgraded suspension, I can easily drive 100 MPH (not KPH) on the road between
Asuncịn and Punta Abreojos.
No one will EVER talk me out of a Jap car.
The only vehicle that ever came close to this car was a VW Rabbit diesel Cabrio. I traded the car in with 427,000 miles on it (the odometer went
around 4 times). At the time, the Rabbit was getting 45 MPG on the diesel engine. And at the time, it was cheaper to drive to TJ to fill up on Diesel
(18 U.S. cents per gallon), than it was to make a phone call. Diesel was selling for over a dollar per gallon in the U.S.

And may I ask you, what do you do to put on that kind of mileage. I drive 25000 miles for work each year but you got me beat. You've been to the moon
and back plus some.

What??? I absolutely love, love, love my Toyota FJ Cruiser! I bought it in 2008 and have nearly 80,000 on it with it needing just the normal
maintanence!! I have driven it half a dozen times from Washington State to San Felipe in both winter and summer with no problems. It is great for the
rainy, snowy winters of the northwest and the deserts of Mexico! I wouldn't trade it in for anything....except maybe a new FJ....I am missing that new
car smell!
Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

Crap? I've got 249,000 miles on my 2002 4Runner - have just done recommended maintenance, no repairs - even has original alternator. It uses less
than 1/2 qt between oil changes and I get 21+ mpg on the highway.

I just gave my rode hard and put up wet Toyota 93 4wd Pickup with 220 k miles to my nephew in California.
The truck was not really maintained other than fluid changes and tires, new plugs, new plug wires once, and a timing belt or two.
I never did anything to the emissions system ever, no O2 sensor, no cat conv., nothing in 20 years.
The 20 year old truck passed California emission standards first time.
I bought a 90K miles 10 year old Toyota Tacoma to replace the 20 year old truck.

Well, there is no doubt of the quality of Toyota 4WDs, and other vehicles... However, it isn't the only car company out there, so go ahead get another
brand... I have owned a Jeep, Subarus (3), Mitsubishi, Mazda, Plymouth and Toyotas (3) and my parents have owned (that I recall): Fords, Jeeps, and a
Chevy Suburban 4WD.
The Japanese brands I had/ have were all nearly flawless and excellent values. The American brands I owned were crap in quality (1975 Jeep and 1990
Plymouth). My parents had great luck with Fords and the first Jeep (1965), but bad luck with the second Jeep (1970) and the Chevy.
I cannot see ever owning anything but a Toyota product as the quality of mine, the wife's, and everyone I know who has Toyotas (a lot) is just great.
So, if you are car/ truck shopping... do you ask who has a Toyota about a Toyota or ask someone who doesn't... and spreads bad news about a brand they
don't own? 
(PS, I do not own stock in Toyota or get any form of payment for talking about Toyota)

Cars are a preference, I just like and have had great success with Fords. I
bought a Honda once and a got a flat the next day on my way to work.......hated that car after that. Porsche was great until the water pump went and
it was going to cost $1500 to fix a $2500 car. Rolled the Jeep within 3 months. Newest toy is a '94 Bronco I just bought from the original owner with
86k miles, it is ready for Baja!

My main job is as a hydraulic engineer, working for a company that has me put together deployment containers for the military, and I had to travel to
military bases throughout the Southwest US. Plus I have many civilian companies that use hydraulics on their heavy equipment. I have the resources to
find and repair or replace whatever hydraulic connector and adapter anyone needed.
I also provided hydraulic fitting identification seminars to the same people.
My part time job is as a chef and caterer. That entailed schlepping my cooking equipment from Morro Bay south to San Diego.
The rest will come out in my book once I am retired this year and I have time to write it

My '02 Yukon has a 5.3 liter V8 and weighs 8,600 lbs per an official scale. It has 269,000 miles on it and gets an average of 18.5 mpg on the highway.
With the 3rd row seat removed and the back seats folded down I can haul 4x8 ft plywood and dry wall + up to 12' 2xs INSIDE. Can't do
that with any jap vehicle.
Oh, I did have to put in a rebuilt tranny (6,000 pesos in Ensenada) and a used engine with 68,000 miles on it ($550 in Canada). Love that big hog.
