Diesel disappearing from major port towns in Baja?
It's been pretty well documented that there is no diesel for dispensing directly into boats in Santa Rosalia for some time. No gasoline, either.
And a couple of weeks ago, EDM1 reported that there was no diesel to be had in Bahia de Los Angeles.
Now comes word that the same thing has happened in Puerto Escondido in Loreto. Getting diesel/fuel requires calling someone who delivers the fuel in
about four hours time.
What the heck is going on? Why is there suddenly no convenient fueling in the Sea of Cortez, north of La Paz?

in Pto Escondido it's simply a matter of funds...the marina is for sale, negotiations are on, and the powers that be simply don't want to fill the
tanks with fuel that they may not get paid for when/if they leave. can't say for sure re Sta Rosalia, but it's also a Singlar property, also for
sale. have no idea about Bahia los Angeles

Marinas have to pay exactly the same price for fuel as motorists. Then to dispense it and make enough profit to stay in business is a challenge.

This is why fuel dispensed to "on the water" boats carries a surcharge over and above the street price.
Fuel purchased "on the ground" at a marina sited Pemex pays the same as the street price.

The fuel shortage in Bahia was a temproary outage. Lasted for only 3 or 4 days. Just happened to be the days EDM1 was visiting. The rumor was that the
construction crew building the new main road and malecon had used all the fuel up and Antonio Pacanin the guy with the big yacht in town had not payed
his bills to Marta, the pemex station owner, so she could not buy more fuel before she ran out. Just a rumor may not have any basis in fact.
Off grid, 12-190 watt evergreen solar panels on solar trackers, 2-3648 stacked Outback inverters, 610ah LiFePo4 48v battery bank, FM 60 and MX60
Outback charge controllers, X-240 Outback transformer for 240v from inverters, 6500 watt Kubota diesel generator.

They were out of diesel atleast 7 days. When we arrived on a Friday , no diesel. We checked almost everyday. We left the following Thursday and they
still didn't have any. This was May 30 through Jun 6. We had to drive 200 miles rt to Jesus Maria to get additional diesel, in addition to the 10
gals we got from a roadside guy.

What I have heard, which may well be scuttlebutt and noway related to truth is that the Singlar marinas were all funded with funds that became
available as part of the Escalera Nautica and now that the project is pretty much dead, that some of the facilities and fuel facilities will be sold
through a government distress sale. This usually happens very late at night and the dock facility as well as the fuel facility is generally sold for
pennies on the dollar. Then the facility gets up and running and is generally sold for a normal profit.
Actually, I like the truck filling up my diesel boat and for the last fill I paid exactly the same price as if I were filling my truck at the gas
station in Santa Rosalia.

OK, 7 days, whatever. My point was that it was a temporary problem. Too bad you didn't contact me, I keep an extra 50 gallons or so in the garage most
of the time. I probably could have sold you some.
