Has anyone used their services to send your self money from your US bank account? With all the talk about high fees with banks, and atms that are out
of cash when you get there, this may be an option. The fees on the Wells Fargo side are not bad. I can not find the fees listed on telegrafo web site.
I'm sure if you have an atm in your town, ( even Bancomer ), that would be better, but if you have to drive 100 miles to a Bancomer atm maybe the
wiring fees don't seem so high.

Wish I could say we had, but it is only recently that the service came to la bocana. I do know that anyone can open up an account here now and that
they can even give you debit cards without too much hassle. Trust me, this is a major improvement!

I thought Safe Send was cancelled a while back? I did just wire money down to our amigo via BofA electronically. It cost me $35 bucks but
considering we don't have a bank here in BA the convenience was worth it. The spread was about half a point as well...no worries, though.

When we built our house I wired money to the builders bank account, Did you send money to be picked up at the telegrafos office?

I sent money to a bank account but I've sent money to telegrafos in the past.

one suggestion for telegraph wires is to send it in 5,000 pesos installments because sometimes they dont have much cash on hand and limit transactions
so if it's a large amount, they cant cash it. Make sure you have the wire # handy and you just send $ to general list at whatever telegraph office is
closest to you.

Thanks Shari, good tip about the cash on hand. Do you have any idea about the cost? I assume a percentage of what is sent.

We used Western Union to the telegraph office in ABreojos. Don't remember what the cost was and there was a limit because of cash on hand unless we
agreed they could hold it longer for cash to be delivered to the office. Fees were only on the US side and were listed on the website.

Thanks for all the input. I sent myself $500 from Wells Fargo, cost $6 on this end. I will update this when I pick up the money and see what other
fees are there. It's bound to be better than a 200 mile round trip to David E's favorite ATM.

May be he is wrong but our local guys says "Only with a Mexican bank account".
Wells Fargo tried communicating with Bancomer* this morning, and from what I was told, are not happy with the rate of rejection of transactions. Never
ever get between a banker and their money.

yeah that's why I mentioned that for people who live here, it is wise to open a MEXICAN bank account so you can then have a bank card that works (more
often) especially in remote areas...also our telegraph accepts HBCS or HCBS or whatever the hell that bank is so your account card would work here

Last time I was in Bocana two years ago I was told there would be an ATM machine in the coop very soon.......Guess that never happened...

I picked up my cash today. No fees added to the $4 Wells Fargo charged me. I was expecting it to be $6. Online it looks like I could send $1000 for
the same $4. The exchange rate was 0.1 peso/ dollar less than I got at the ATMs on the way down. No 200 mile trips to pick up pesos for me.
