Any SPOT Global phone users?

SPOT has come out with a global phone and has $100 off for current users here. Anyone have one of these yet? Air time will not be cheap but you can call from 'anywhere'. Initial purchase under $500.

Spot partnered with Globalstar...horrible service. Iridium has been the best service for me traveling in the last 5 years. Contact Eddie 619-531-0686 @ All Road Sat and he will take care of Baja travelers. Full rental program or your can purchase a phone and run the $59 per month if you travel south a lot.:bounce:

Do your due diligence before spending any money on Globalstar. I, too, have heard nothing good about the service and would not consider having one aboard for use in emergencies.

I had an Iridium unit and when it was stolen replaced it with Inmarsat (ISAT). Both have worked well. ISAT is particularly good for use south of the border since they can offer plans not available in the U.S. I use mine exclusively in the SOC and the Baja Pacific. Both the hardware and minutes on the ISAT cost about half what I paid for Iridium, and over two years the service has been comparable.

SPOT

Globalstar (who owns Spot) have finally finished replacing their satellites (thanks to a european multi-billion dollar investment) and service is now supposed to be good.
They also have a new tracker called Gen3, to be for sale soon. Just waiting on FCC to allow it to be sold to public. They used it at last weekends HDRA Reno 500 with good results.

Isat used to offer VERY cheap plans a year ago when they were not allowed to sell NOB. Now they are, prices went up, and prepay card is now valid 90 days only, unless you buy a lot of minutes. Still, cheaper than Iridium.

Globalstar - I will wait for more feedback. New satellites came online in May, too early to tell anything. Prices, on a brief glance, are comparable to Isat, if not higher. Oh yeah, - forget about "calling from anywhere", this is how it is "supposed" to be, but not how it is. No connection or dropped calls may and will happen.
