San Felipe Flash Flood Video

Wow, I'm sorry for your neighbor! It looks like the water was flowing out from the patio? I hope it didn't come through the house! Been there, done

Well actually it is kind of interesting.
They literally just finished pouring cement and tiling their back patio.
The design of the patio has a lower area with a fire feature and when they built it I told them it looked like a small pool.
The water came past my house across the street from them and directly into their garage.
They tried to stop the water from coming under the garage door, NOT, the garage had about 6 inches of water in it. The rest of the water diverted to
the right and left of the driveway and down both sides of the house.
By the time it hit the back it was white water. At the end of the patio, where the water exited to the sand, their was about a 4 or 5 foot deep
arroyo that formed. It was probably 7 feet wide and all of the sand under the new patio was washed away about 3 feet back under the cement.
All in all they were fine, just a bunch of cleaning of the garage and patio areas

Sounds like they are going to need to backfill the space left under the slab in small increments that are tamped well and then build a retaining wall
to keep it in place next time. Also should investigate possibility of adding some means of diverting or channeling future flash floods at their
source. I know, good luck with that.

I am getting a price to have all of the my water downspouts drained to the street and I am going to have a cistern built into the low spot in my back
yard with a sump pump and a series of under ground pipes pumped to the front as well
Drainage and grading is not really considered when folks build in a dry desert. I have brought this up to our HOA for years, now maybe they will
listen

Some folks laughed at us for having flood insurance in Borrego Springs. But.......It got real quiet after the past few weeks. Luckily we weren't hurt
but quite a few homes were damaged around DeAnza.

If I had to guess, I would say it is a GoPro or, it is a camera with a very wide angle lens and a motion device to float the camera through the scene

Oh. I thought you took the video. If you find out exactly what equipment was used I certainly would like to know. It had a very non hand held feel
to it.
