Todos Santos and Pescadero Accommodation/Camping/parking

Nomads,
I am starting to plan for 2014/15 Xmas/January trip to Baja. I will be with three other buddies w/ pick-up and 16" cargo trailer (moto trip). We plan on camping/renting rooms in key areas for 3-6 days at a time as basecamp settings from BoLA to south cape. One guy is big on the Todos/Pescadero area for one basecamp as he also wants to play on surfboards. We will do day rides and would like to have showers and kitchen/taqueria capacity at day's end...(we can cook either Coleman style or w/ kitchen).

While I am geographically somewhat familiar with this area, I am out of touch with rental and "good vibe" options.

I am asking for feedback on the following places as good spots to park truck/trailer and where we could rent inexpensive rooms/casitas w/ bathroom capacities. I am VERY open to other recommendations.

I am thinking we will be in Todos/Pescadero area for 4-6 sleeps.

These are some ideas he sent me from his research:

http://www.todossantosguide.com/thegreatescape.htm

I know there is some stuff to avoid in Pescadero area (beach pigs/open septic ?? )

Any comments here or by U2U would be very much appreciated.

I know how I would do this, but my buddies are more in charge of planning so I need to sit back from the navigator's seat a bit for this trip....but want "inside/local" intel that you folks can offer.

Muchas gracias.

Pescadero Surf is good for accommodations and surfboard rentals
but don't know about parking. Think it's on the street which is not a good option.

Thievery in Pescadero is rampant. Your vehicles should have a alarm system/kill switch. Lock everything up and leave nothing of value exposed in vehicles. Seriously you will lose things if you get relaxed about security.

I'd highly recommend the Pescadero Surf Camp, I'm sure that they can arrange secure parking for your motos.

Thank you for the replies so far.

How about spots north of Todos along the coast?

Any particular spots to avoid?

That's a good suggestion! You can also check VRBO for vacation home rentals.

No, Batiquitos campground north of town is no longer open.
But you can wild camp on the beach for free.

Mono,
The ideal set up would be room with two beds for under $80. My travel experience in Baja let's me know that is certainly possible and should put us in "Excellent Ubication".
BoLA: $50 for room w/ 2 bed at Costa del Sol
Hotel Marina (San Jose marina) $75

I have no problem with basic rooms for this kind of trip.....I will drop the big bucks other times....

You might want to check out the Hotel Santa Rosa in Todos Santos or Hotel Guliarte across the street from the Hotel California.

The first time I visited Todos Santos we paid the equivalent of $6 a night at the Hotel California for the large room upstairs that had 2 double beds and a single. It was really cheap to live well in Baja in those days before it became the 51st state.

Amigo, on the beach in Pescadero---Surf Hotel---reserve thru Jaime Pescadero Surf Camp. Also, two places down is Dr. Robert's Oasis. Both a little funky but excellent locations. BFS's place would be good, tambien. As you know, reserve now for Dec/Jan. Lookme/Nomads up for a good conversation (u2u). Good Luck. Tio

Tio,
Gracias....
Planning and reservations ? Personally I am rather retentive and plan my travel basics a year in advance as a framework to deviate from

We are looking probably early January 2015 for this trip....so we have some wiggle room....right now just gathering tips from those in the know... :saint:

Michael,
We will be in Mulege as a base for about a week after the south cape.

I have already alerted DT to this ...so the cat is out of the bag, so to say

I remember meeting you and your wife and would seriously consider your area ....if the Questa Real is full or won't have us back :saint:

Again, we are looking at January, 2015.

Four guys need a casita with 4 beds, kitchen, and shower w/hot water.... and a place to park a truck and utility trailer. I like your ubication

If DT rides with us the week before, he may have had his fill of leftist, poor spelling, fast-riding Canucks.....but he seems to pop up everywhere ....

You could u2u me with rough $$$ #'s if you like...

Our three main ports of call will be a week in each of South Cape, Mulege, Bahia de Los Angeles....

Gracias
