Baja 500 97A
Our first SCORE race was a great experience. We ended with a 5th place finish out of 10 starters.We had 5 riders to complete the 419 miles.Our quad
crossed the finish line at 9:00pm. The last 25 miles in the dark and fog.I did the section from Valle de Trinidad to Ojos Negros.I was passed by a
couple of trucks,class 1's and 10's. They were all patient as I found room to pull over.We had a great celebration that night.
They said this was the hardest Baja 500 ever, at one point we heard there were over 40 cars stuck on the hill.There were racers showing up this
morning after a long night.Robbie Gordon finished first in the TT's and Mouse finished first in the motorcycles beating out Steve&Johnny long
time baja champs.

Congratulations Paul. I saw your quad go by us at the cross over road before Mike's Sky Ranch. Look strong going by. Yes it was probably one of the
toughest 500 races ever. There were two really bad hills. One at Simpson's ranch race mile 202 and the other at race mile 240. Our race truck (805)
broke at RM242 and we spent the night trying to get to it. I'll tell the story after I've caught up on evreything.
I'm really glad it all worked out for you and your team.

Difinitely in the making. These young guns will probably be race mates for life.They enjoyed all the excitement as much as we did. Carlitos is already
racing and JP has been riding since last year.
They know all the heros of the sport now.
In fact I meet Alan Pelueger prerunning the week before the 500. My son Juan Pablo has been a fan of his since seeing D2G. I had to go meet him so I
could tell JP who I meet. Alan was very cool. He took the time to talk to me and even gave me an autographed poster personalized to Juan Pablo. At
registration we saw Alan and asked him if he rememberd signing the poster for my son. He said he did and I told him well here he is and he wants to
meet you. Alan was super nice and spent time talking to JP and even getting down to his level. It was so exciting for him.
When Sal Fish called us up at the awards ceromony JP got to meet him. We gave our thanks to some sponsors and of course thanking my wife for the
support. All the days prerunning and preparing was a lot. A few weekends in a row not being home and what not. Well I get back to our table and my
wife is taking pictures with Mouse McCoy.
We used the McMillians pit right after coming down from Mikes. We have a good friend that helps them pit in all the races so they said it was 0k. We
meet Corky and he came out and talked with us like we had been friends for a long time. He also talked with the kids a great deal. He said some of the
best times were taking his sons and grandsons riding. He told me to keep taking the kids out and coming to the races.
Everyone we meet was so friendly and straight down to earth. No attitudes or BS just a bunch of guys out enjoying what we do. It was an honor to meet
these guys and they sure gave me a good felling about offroad racing and the people who do it. I thank them for just being one of the guys.....Paul
