No idea, but Ray's Place would never be the same without his presence, imo.

Perhaps someone else has the scoop on the building and the business.

I thought his spouse (Pam?), might have continued on?

Just asking if they were going to be open this season...

On one hand, it would be great if this place could remain in business. On the other hand, without its soul, maybe not so bad if it did not reopen.

We had been there several times, and always cursed it when he was closed. Sure, I can understand that in slow season it would make little sense to remain open just to have a great deal of spoilage. But we were selfish.

Just before i left the end of May for mi casa in NM, i talked with a local Mexicana Mulegeņa lady. She is 'old family' in the town. Now, they say it's not nice to speak ill of the dead, but she told me he had certain 'penchants' (which we all do to an extent).... one of which was gambling, and he allegedly owed LOTS of money all over, and i mean more than just Mulege. Also, upon his death she said the local gossip among especially all the women in town was "now our young boys can be safe". Lastly, the circumstances of his death were not what was reported originally, but as usual, simple and close-the-case according to the Policia.

Without his 'soul', it woudn't be the same. He was the ultimate Schmoozer; i've eaten there many times also. Food was good (i felt pricier than the worth), but his service was better and made up for it. The guy could sell ice cubes to an Inuit. I guess what i'm trying to say is, i'll be surprised if it re-opened unless under new ownership/management. Time will tell; i just hope the road in improves.

Same question was asked on 10-11-11:

I heard it was several miles west of town - forgot the name of the road.

Thx, Rob

On Jan. 30, Arvada George posted about Ray's... and someone there asked the same thing... Although I haven't been there, I did find the GPS form it and made some images of the road in on Google Earth:

I did find the GPS for it in Mike & Terri Church's 2006 'Camping Mexico's Baja', as Ray has a campground there too, it seems... Wish he was open in the summer as we would like to check it out!

Based on the GPS, and the many turns mentioned... I think I found the road, from space... let me know if it looks right!

The next 7 views are all looking west:

So, is this it?... Ray's driveway:

Everyone knows this, yet they expect... I don't know what they expect... I just don't get it.

Kinda like the guidebooks still list Ecomundo as a local destination even tho' the book editors know it's been gone for the better part of 10 years, no editor will remove it from their revised editions...
I don't understand this either.
