Strike closing road south of Loreto

have heard of this but never experienced it.
11am today, all Hwy 1 (and side) traffic blocked north and south at the airport turn off south of Loreto.
was told it would last another 2-3 hrs.
hopefully by the time you're reading this it will be gone.
huge beer tent covering most of road with lots of people below it. I think it had something to do with 'enough promises' and ISSSTE, but am not sure.

Just wondering whether this was North or South of the airport turnoff. Curious because of the rumors that the Villa folks have been considering Shuttering their place at Ensenada Blanca. In essence, could visitors to the Villa property get to the airport?

It was North of the airport road. E. Blanca visitors(?) could get to the airport, but poeple from town could not. Also travel between town and Loreto Bay was shut down.

Maybe it was a celebration for Loreto Bay being bought by Carlos Slim. Got to love a protest with a beer tent.

Carlos Slim needs a lead supplement to his diet.

Personally, I hope that Carlos Slim remains in good health, DavidE.

I can't in my wildest dreams see how Carlos Slim's company buying Homex could be bad for Loreto.

On another note, to get back to the original post, the "United Fight for Loreto Committee" is upset because a BCS State "Delegado" wants to send one of the ambulances in service in Loreto down to Ciudad Constitucion.

They're (the ISSSTE employees) also probably peeed off because they haven't been paid in months. :(

:lol::lol: I always wondered if the Villa folks were visionaries or money launderers.

That said, the reassignment of an ambulance might actually be based upon usage and need. That;s an interesting story.

And I do agree that Slim buying the Loreto Bay project is probably the best news there has been in years. It simply means that there is a whole lotta money behind it now.

You have any dealings with TelMex before Slim got ahold of it? I'd be curious about a comparison...

.

As with so many Mexican nationalized industries, Telmex was not in the business of upgrading for the future. It was land lines in the home, and about a Jillion payphones everywhere. Pemex has long suffered from the same Mexican pride that forbad outside interest or competition. Slim paid a crapload of dinero for it. I won't defend him, but Telmex is a much better carrier than when he bought it. Certainly not as it might be be if there was more competition.

I'm thinking that an industry can't go from a government monopoly to a free market with multiple players competing in one fell swoop. Slim has played his role in the privatization process well. Evolution.

It is still about stifling competition. Perhaps not as bad as a few years ago, but it still exists. One need only compare the competitive atmosphere in the US with Mexico to understand this. Admittedly, most of the kerfuffle is about the cell phone thingy.
