Catavina

Thank god it is finally time for our annual migration to Los Barriles. I think I read someplace that the DEsert Inn ( or what ever it is called now) was no longer pet friendly. Does any one know ? Has anybody stayed there recently? Is the reastaraunt still horrible? Last time I stayed it was fairly clean is it still or has it reverted back? Any help wpuld be greatly appreciated

If no one knows for sure, please post if you find out about the pet policy.

I hope it has not changed. We did not mind paying the pet fee.

We had a great breakfast there a couple of months ago. What did you have that was so horrible? $85 for a room in the middle of no where? hmmm Maybe Lindas at 500 pesos is better? or gonzaga at 600 pesos? its all relative to where you.

I just made reservations for a guest and a room was $90 plus tax but there is a discount for Vagabundos of 10%. They did not want a credit card number to hold the room either.

Only had breakfast Diane (the night was spent at Jardines). Poor Molly had to spend breakfast in the truck.

WOW, i mean WTF? just like Mexico to raise the prices to compensate for the lack of takers.....

edit: and with the cost of gasoline getting closer to the US, Mexico will see fewer and fewer visitors facing higher prices! i guess the good old days REALLY were!

We stayed at La Mision Cataviña (ex-La Pinta/Desert Inn Catavina)
two weeks ago on our way south to Loreto. It was far better than it has been in the past. We had our three dogs and their dog beds with us, and we all stayed in the room to the west of the pool nearest the rear exit (for easy dog walking). The hotel is freshly painted and very clean. The best thing about dinner was the free surprise salad — a 6-inch-across slice of tomato from the greenhouses of Dos Pinos (hotel owners.) Never seen a tomato so big around! The room was $86 with Residente Permanente discount.

I stayed at La Mision Catavina for the first time ever last month, and had a swell time. I thought the room was good, certainly beat the heck out of options elsewhere on the drive. price was about 90 bucks, with INAPAM discount. considering the location, it was reasonable. I found the food in the restaurant just fine, too.

changing the subject about 100 miles just for information and not starting a new thread..
has anyone stayed or have information about the hotel close to the military base just north of Guerrero Negro.. I think it used to be a Desert Inn also.

we stayed there a couple of years ago and got a room for $480 peso with our pet and the restaurant was good at that time.. Probably not gonna happen like this again..
we are trying to decide on if we stay at Catavina or press further south next weekend... unless the new storm is comin up the coast..
thanks for any help...

hey, thanks for the update on the catavina hotel...we had a bad experience there just this past year but it seems it's gotten better with new owners...that's very cool!...when we looked at the rooms early last year they were abysmal ...and worn...and scary...for $90....so things must have changed...makes us happy to have an option.

If I recall correctly, it was renamed 'Half Way Hotel'... originally Hotel El Presidente Paralelo 28º > La Pinta > Desert Inn...

Thanks for the info. We have stayed in Catavina several times ( mainly because it is a perfect one day drive from the border) and we never know what we will find. The only thing that remains a constant is the restaurant realy realy sucks. I don't know what the dinners taste like, I have never been able to stay awake long enough to get my meal. I now bring sandwich material and a big bottle of scotch and life is good.
Shari said she called to make reservations. can any one
give me the phone number? Thank you.

Oh my yes, Inn, not Hotel! I wasn't 100%, that's why I questioned my recollection.

Correctamundo, $500 pesos a night (less than $40 bucks)..... that is, if we're talking about the big yeller one on the west side of Hwy 1 just before the Big Tuning Fork. Rooms are spartan but comfortable w/TV, restaurant passable and reasonably priced, and a small tienda for snacks/sodas etc. The only iffy was some comings/goings during the night; it's a good ''no-tell motel'' for the Guerrereños, but no loud partying. If you're RVing it's really cheap, $5 mas o meno if i remember correctly. And if it does storm (which it is going to) the parking lot is a LAKE. A gooey one at that.
