Judy,

I actually have flown on VivaAerobus back in 2009 after the La Carrera Panamericana race. Needed to fly from Monterrey to Guadalajara. Nice aitline and definitely budget, but clean and nice. I think they are trying to move into the Baja market (maybe La Paz I heard). Based in Monterrey.

Glad you asked about them Judy. Looks like they have direct service from La Paz to MZT. We're thinking about taking a trip and I haven't found any direct flights from BCS to Mazatlan- every combo I've tried would require multiple flights and/or overnights.

Good news: The price for sports equipment (surfboards) is only $40 dollars. Many airlines charge you $100+ one way.

Bad news: Their oversize baggage policy states they might not accept your surfboards if they decide the plane's too full.

"VivaAerobus is an airline with very short platform times, the base of this transport ("sports equipment")will be limited, namely, under the passengers own risk for damages and/or delays. The transportation of such items will be subject to room, therefore it is strongly advisable that passengers notify Vivaaerobus in advance."

Hardly anyone flies into Mazatlan any more.

You have to fly in to Culican, Sinaloa, walk through the airport and take a taxi to the central bus terminal and a 2 hour bus ride (they leave frequently) to Mazatlan.

The buses are nice.

We might visit a place that's half-way between Mazatlan and Culiacán, and Culiacán was suggested as an alternative airport to MZT but I don't know the area and wondered if that was a good option. Sure is easier to find flights to Culiacán. Thanks Mula.
