Art Supplies

My wife and I are planning to be travelling for three weeks in Baja Sur, especially the Todos Santos area. Was wondering where to buy art supplies (canvases, paints)--is there a place in Todos or is La Paz/Cabo the best source?

There's nowhere in TS itself that we know of currently. There are places in both La Paz and Cabo. You can get some limited supplies in Pescadero - but I suggest you pop into Cafelix and he will be able to direct you to the best place in La Paz.

I bought canvasses and paints in La Paz at Papeleria Agruel about a year and a half ago. They had a good selection of sizes of nice pre-stretched canvasses at good prices. Lots of brushes, pens, drafting supplies. The acrylic paints I found there were not of good quality. I don't remember if they carried a good line of oils, as i wasn't looking for them. Nice, helpful people. The address is Guillermo Prieto #189. phone #'s:
612-122-0145 or 612-122-3945.

There are so many good painters in Todos Santos, I'm sure the studio/galleries there will have good info for you.

Happy travels-- I hope you'll post a link to some of your Baja inspired work!

bring your own paints...packed in the checked luggage, they are considered gels, I almost lost a fortune in watercolors once but a kindly TSA inspector let me take them PHX to LAX and warned me to get them into my checked luggage as he said they wouldn't make it through LAX.
while you can get some paint brands at Agruel, none are professional quality and all are fairly expensive. I agree with Paula re the acyrlics, the oils are brands like Atl (Mexican brand) and student grades of others, and wc is again ATL or WN Cotman. the store does have a good selection of canvases (metric) and a wide selection of other artists supplies. they do deliver to the Loreto area, you might check if they will send to Todos Santos.
enjoy your vacation.

reality\'s never been of much use out here...

Marisol -- in San Jose del Cabo -- on the highway, on the north side of the Public Works/City offices, ocean side of the highway, between Valerio Gonzales Street (Bus Street) and Manuel Doblado Street (Out Street). I don't known art supplies, but I have seen a good supply of canvas and paints there.

Be sure to share you pictures with us when you return, Mexitron.

I just took a picture here in HMB that looks a lot like your seascape. I wonder if I was subliminally influenced.

There is a place in Todos Santos to get art supplies. Just across the street from La Esquina restaurant going towards Las Tunas. It is an office supply, UPS store, Internet and just fun stuff. You'll have to stop in! The owners speak English and they are really good people it's called Papeleria La Palma. You can email Ruben at: papepalma -at - hotmail.com

Do you paint plants and flowers? Pics of those, if you do.

This 4 year-old question/thread (and 2 others) were revived by the principal(s) of the business noted above which they wished to promote with their first three posts to the board here. fyi.
