passport number
I have an FMM that doesn't expire until April 2014 and plan to spend 2 or 3 months in Mexico in early 2014. I just renewed my passport and the
passport number changed. My old passport number appears on my current FMM. Since I'll be returning to the US prior to my current FMM expiring I don't
want to get a new FMM. Does anybody see any problems with my FMM showing the old passport number?

Don't you still have your old passport?? They usually give it back with the new one. Either way I really doubt anyone would even ask to see your FMM
let alone compare it with a passport number....just go and have a good time.
Mexico!! Where two can live as cheaply as one.....but it costs twice as much.....

They return your old passport with the new one. According to almost everyone here on Nomad, your FMM will never be asked for, anyway! LOL I think Jack
Swords, edm1, and I are the only ones who have!!

Hey, don't we both love Baja? Isn't that why we are here? See my new thread on discussing the places shown on that map... Let's talk Baja!

They give your old passport back, however, they punch a hole through it to identify it as expired.

Thanks- The only time I have ever been asked for my FMM is when doing banking business. I do have my old passport so guess I'll carry it, along with
the new one, just in case.

If you are asked for your FMM, which rarely happens, with the exception of when you unfortunately have an accident, if the police come to the scene, I
can say with 30 years of Baja travel, that requesting the FMM has never included a request to see a passport. Simple reason is that you must produce a
passport to obtain the FMM. Therefore, it is a given that you have a valid passport. So, do not sweat it.

Yah, agree wholeheartedly. The only times I've ever been asked for my FMM were at the state border, once at the bridge into Sonora (I have no idea
why, that's still in the free zone), and when I fly out of TIJ.

Exactly. My wife and I have traveled to innumerable countries around the world. Those stamps represent something of value to us. That said, a few
years back, we turned in a leased vehicle, that we had just recently used to drive Baja. Dummy me, I apparently left our passports in the door pocket,
which is where we has stowed them while traveling. When we realized that we could not find our passports a few weeks later, we called the dealer. Ha
ha ha ha. Not sure what value someone else's passport is. We got replacements very quickly, but of course, sans the stamps from all those countries.

FYI all,
We renewed our passports at US Post Office in Oceanside last year and they took all 4 passports and DID NOT give them back to us.
|
The old ones are mailed back, as are the new ones... Did mine at Oceanside P.O. as well... They do not issue new passports there, only process the
application/ take photos as a service... unless it changed?

My wife just informed me that they mailed my old passport back. Forgot all about it. I have deleted my initial post.
