Didn't leave tourist card when I left
Left Baja last spring by car without surrendering my tourist card. Anyone know if I will have to pay a fine on entering this year and if so how much,
procedure, etc.?
Thanks in advance!!

Read of a guy applying at a Texas crossing for an fmm,
his previous one expired and fell out of his passport
on the counter of Mex Immigration. The Mex Imm
APPARENTLY quoted a passage of x # of days past
when his old fmm had expired as to a fine, he CLAIMS
a fine was actually paid. It certainly appears Mex Imm
has the ability to track fmm's by computer. But
I have never read of a CONFIRMED fine. If a fine system
was in place, there would be dozens of fines reported,
it is very common for tourists to let an fmm expire
by not turning it in. I always turn them before expiration,
but it appears to not matter one bit as to future trips

Several years ago I tried to turn mine in at the Mexicali border and the Mex. officials just laughted at me, and would not even take it back. Oh

What happens if you stay in country until it expires, leaving on that day? Do the visa police come and gitcha?

Lads, when I cross again in a couple of weeks, I'll be sure to post how it went. And, if I get any pushback from Mex. Immigration , I'll refer them
to your comments--that should grease it for sure.
Use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without.

As I mentioned in another recent thread on this topic I have turned in my last two expired permits while getting new ones without any comment from the
Mexican officer. Most recently last month at the new TJ crossing and the one before that at Tecate.

For the past twenty years, I have gotten a tourist visa every six months. I have never turned in the expired visa during all those years. Last week
on the same day that my visa expired, I walked into Nuevo Laredo and got a new one for the next six months. I have not had a problem so far
concerning my neglect of turning in the old visa. I believe that if everyone attempted to turn in the expired visa it would cause too much of a time
consumption hassle for both the tourist and the immigration officers. Maybe that's why immigration rarely enforces the regulation.

Yeah, I forgot to turn my last one in and when I got a new one I just got yelled at by someone who'd had a bad day. I told her I mailed it in and
rolled my eyes while she got whatever personal issues she was having that day off her chest.
No fine.

I had one that was ready to expire and the office in Ensenada would not accept it, they said throw it away, any way it expired, I kept it and entered
at Nogales last week and was given a new FMM without question......

HCR - relax. There was a recent thread on the same subject. They don't care. Have never heard of anybody having problems for not returning it. I never
return my card when driving out or taking a bus, though have to return it when flying out - they collect it before you board the plane.
If you go to Mexico again after it had expired, just throw it out before leaving home, and buy a new one. This is important - throw it out as if it
never existed. Don't leave it in your passport or your pocket.
