bank machines that take cards with chip?
My dad just crossed into Ensenada, and most bank machines will not accept his new ATM card with the chip, only the newest machines, like at Costco.
Has anyone run into this problem. Any advice on where other new machines are that will accept chip down the Baja? They are in El Rosario tonight.
TIA!

that's where we go when needed. never an issue. we normally stop at the third toll booth in ensenada heading south. there is an atm kiosk right next
to the tienda/bathrooms.

It is a RFID chip, the same as the new passport and passport card. This gives the thief a easier time. Some use both a mag. stripe and/or the chip,
some only use the chip. If they also have a mag. strip should not be a problem. I would not use it on a weekend if they are not ready to go to the
bank on Monday.

A little back ground info. this is not new, just not talked about.

Banamex banks in Baja will accept EMV chips cards (in fact they dispense EMV chipped ATM/debit cards for their account holders).
It seems like there's some "chip" confusion. This article explains the type of chip MissesB is probably talking about.
Microprocessor chips
These are not the RF wave-your-card-at-the-machine chips. You must insert your card in to the machine, wait a second until it reads the
card, and then remove it. You do not swipe this type of card and it can't pick up radio signals.
These cards have a small shiny silver logo on them. There is no "radio tower" symbol on this type of card.

These are chip-and-PIN cards. Mexico is just starting to convert to them, Canada's most of the way done converting. Europe's been on EMV chip-and-pin
for so long that an entire generation of teenage shopkeepers have never known any different.
You should be able to put your chipped card in a normal ATM, though. It will read the mag stripe that remains.

I've had a Vancity chip card for 3 years. No problems at the Mulege ATM; I've never used it anywhere else in Mexico. They replaced/rebuilt the Mulege
machine in July and my sisters chipped Vancity card has worked fine too since then.
