pre-paid Telcel SIM card question

We're very excited to be headed to Todos Santos in less than three weeks!

I bought a pre-paid Telcel SIM card prior to our trip in July, and it was trouble-free. My only issue with it was that it was issued with a Mexico City area code, which I realize would inconvenience (and possibly confuse) local cell phone users when I called them. Naturally the minutes (both voice and data) expired, but I'm wondering if it would be easier to recharge the card via the Telcel website - which would involve keeping the Mexico City phone number - or to pick up a local pre-paid SIM card at Telcel store in Todos Santos (or maybe even in Cabo, since we'll likely stop along the way to purchase groceries). The latter might be a good way to practice my Spanish, which hopefully won't result in an international incident!

:o

Telcel tiendas will sell you a phone and a SIM with their local area code.
Buy a cheap (300-400p) phone and get a SIM loaded with 100p.

Bingo.....spare phone and a SIM to boot......

Thanks for the quick reply! That wouldn't be a bad idea, but I found that I used data far more than voice, and that therefore having my smartphone available for Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc., ended up being pretty important. So since I have an unlocked phone (in my case an HTC One), the SIM is all I need.

In that case.....they do sell SIM's all by themselves.

In light of this post, I may not need to buy a Telcel (or Movistar) SIM card after all. Has anyone used TMobile recently in the Todos Santos / Pescadero area?
