Sirrus-XM Radio /XM -Sirrus Radio
Hi There Nomads, Can someone confirm if Sirrus -XM Radio works in La Paz BCS.Our boat is in La Paz and we are planning on buying a new Sirrus XM ready
radio an adding it to our existing acct in the US as an additional radio. CDs are getting old and we like the selection of music via sat radio.
Any nuisances , tips or reccomendattions are appreciated.

My Sirrus radio works great everywhere in Baja.

XM is marginal in La Paz. You need a clear shot at the Satellite. It almost never works in the Los Cabos area.
Sirrus works well in both places. I switched to Sirrus in my car in 2008 and it works great.

Reception probably varies by the model of the radio you buy. You should research that feature.
I notice that Sirrus on my (portable) boom box in San Felipe has 3 out of 5 bars if I get the antenna exactly correct. Works perfect.
I bet most OEM auto for either Sirrus or XM would have good reception even way south.
My son has an Alpine Sirrus radio and it works great in Cobo

We have XM in the Tacoma, and the signal dropped near Santa Rita (northwest of La Paz). It did seem to work again in La Paz, but once we were there we
traveled with BajaTripper and Zully most of the time, so no radio on.
Driving back north from La Paz, the signal was dead until we were north of Santa Rita area again... then the entire remainder of the peninsula was all
good.

My sirrus xm reception is sketchy here in Pescadero. Works in the am, but around noon it is on and off. Seems to return at night for some reason. I
thought it was the antenna, but I installed a new one w/similar results.

My Sirius radios in my home in Loreto and in my Jeep both get excellent reception.
I did buy the upgraded antenna for the Jeep, and my signal is strong from my home in Oregon all the way to Todos Santos. I'm convinced the antennas
make the difference.
I pay 285.00 per year for the two radio subscriptions, they bill independently.

I have Sirius radio in my casita in Los Barriles and in my truck. The reception is excellent no problemos ( even driving the Baja).

I know you asked about La Paz, specifically, but Sirius works fine in La Bocana area.

Get the right antennae. Some work better than others. They make special marine ones that work great

Totally confused. My account is Sirius, so I believe. That is where I log in. But did not they buy XM ? My service in Cano is spotty, depends which
direction I'm driving. Could I really be pointing to the XM sat?

I'd stick with a Sirius receiver and you'll should be fine. It's something about the number, or locations of their satellites that
seems to give much better coverage than XM receivers. Never heard someone with a Sirius radio complain about lack of reception.
Our truck came with XM and we have a signal when in town in La Paz but not on the outskirts so I don't know how you'd do on your boat with XM.
Intermittent signal when driving around Cabo/SJC on XM. Mostly no signal.
My Dad drove from Guatemala to the US and back and never lost his Sirius signal and always had Sirius radios on his boats.

We've had Sirius for a few years, always worked wherever we went in Mexico, mostly down the Pacific mainland coast but also into the interior places,
and out to Texas. Even in San Felipe the only place we've had it in Baja. I can't see it not working in BCS.

The 2 companies merged but their satellites are still specific to Sirius or XM. Sirius has 3 satellites that move in a figure 8 pattern over
the Western Hemisphere and XM has 2 satellites that are geostationary over the equator. Something about the difference in software hasn't allowed them
to merge services completely.

When I bought my chevy pu it had xm radio and a six month free subscription. After acouple of months I decided I liked my old Sirius radio better.
Luckily I had a life time Sirius subscription and just needed to have it installed.
