It's Time To Flap Wings And Move North

On a social insecurity budget. Not to the USA, I mean much closer to the border. The surgeries I have lined up are going to mean committing to a few dozen medical appointments.

I want to TRY and head out a first light, cross the border, do the waiting room run-around 20 minutes with a 33 RPM doctor spinning at 78, then head back, without breaking the bank, and ESPECIALLY avoiding driving in the dark. One of the damned reasons for the surgeries.

Try as I might, I get the willies when i think of trying this from Punta Banda which would be my first choice.

Whew, rent, food, utilities, travel, all on a social security limitation. I would welcome any and all advice and suggestions.

Maybe Tecate again? Not a bad drive.

or maybe you can sell some of your land in the Federal Zone?

I wanna go home Blanca. I like you and Les and all the nice folks in this area. Eduardo, Celso and I have become good friends. It's going to be painful, but I am dying on the vine without my family. It rips my heart out when little Dalia starts crying and wails "When are you coming home, grandpa. Don't you love me any more?"

Tecate is more expensive than the USA. A small and I mean SMALL hovel there rents for 500 dollars a month. Super heavy demand for cross-border workers. And winters are colder than krap.

Not so, my friend. I can find you a place in Tecate for $1600 pesos, with a bathroom, shower and two nice sized rooms, and a stove!! Right near a good friend of mine.

The cold part about Tecate is right...been there for snow. Makes it real hard to down that second margarita at the Diana and eating tacos outside with gloves on at Pancho's is a bummer after only one margarita.

We're in El Sauzal. A little north of Ensenada. I usually go up through Tecate. Ninety minutes. A nice drive. Short wait at the border. Thirty minutes to San Diego
