I cancelled my Residente Temporal (FM3) today, quite painless. Was charged 300 pesos, and allowed 15 days to leave the country....

Why would you do that after going to the trouble to get it?

If an individual travels to the USA, Guatemala or Belize, quite frequently, then the residente permanente status becomes less important.

Safe travels...

And enjoy the great grand kids! Sounds like a good reason to travel.

I'm a little surprised at the 300 peso charge. How close to expiration was it? Did they indicate that it was an "early cancellation fee" or something?

Which office did you cancel it at? Santa Rosalia?

The 300 pesos was for letter preparation and copies..not a cancellation fee

Shedding things that you no longer need, is wise. As to the rest, don't expect much. To grandchildren that you have never seen you will be a stranger for quite a while.
