although now a large cemetery, there are english grave sites dating back to the late 1800's, a small museum at the cannery. the bartender at the old mill whips up ahelluva margie!

I visited that cemetery a few years ago but I couldn't any of the English gravesites that are there. It has grown into a very large cemetery. Poorly maintained as well.

Bob53, I think the abalone is out towards the tip in the bay. Lobera is where the road turns inland towards El Rosario. Dirt road to coast. There is some type of fish camp out there. Maybe it's an abalone farm too?

no, la lobera is that big natural crater in the lava rock where folks go to see the sea lions, we tried to get out there after the rains but the road was completely washed out. but yeah its down the hill going into el rosario

I hear ya. I went there last year and fed the seals Takis. JK. I stand by my above statement. I went by the abalone farming San Q while cruising that road in San Q on the same trip. All I was saying was there was some sort of fish camp at Lobera too and perhaps it was an oyster farm. Doubt it.

Hey Bob 53, there is a La Lobera photo in this report below.

Also went by the oyster place in San Q.

Two different places. Lobera is just a hole in the ground with a bunch of seals.

I know where the oyster farms are. There is a man named Martin that owns a small oyster farm on Bahia Falsa. We have been friends for over ten years. Best oysters around btw. I was asking about an abalone farm out around La Labera. The bartender at Hotel Mision Santa Maria told me there was one out there. I just was wondering if it were true.

there is a place out there. i doubt there is a sign as the Co-op is seeding baby abs for commercial harvest. Ron Hoff can fill in the blanks.

actually, about 20 years ago there was a story in the local SD news about the Navy planting 1000 baby abs in a grid off Sunset Cliffs. they planned to study there movements, predetors, etc... in the hopes of on day restarting the fishery. it was a secret location that to this day hasn't been revealed.

the study must not have turned out well....
