Dog North

Does US require more than just Rabies proof when crossing back into US?

They sometimes ask for a Health Cert, but normally the Rabies Cert is sufficient.

It seems to be one of those areas with really variable interpretation.

I don't think I've ever been asked for anything, ever, crossing north with dogs.

They never ask. I've been taking stray cats across the border, and have never been asked for any paperwork. I do keep a copy of my cat's vaccination record in the glove compartment just in case, though.

I have been asked if our dogs had papers...I always carry a health certificate and current shot record for both of our dogs.

I've been bringing a cat about every two weeks, and no one has ever asked. That also went for the Doberman that I took to rescue. Even though she had all of her shots, no one asked. That included when I was sent to secondary.

I have been crossing with dogs for over 20 years and have never been asked. I do however always have vaccination papers handy.

Never been asked for any records in 20 years and always have a dog with me. I think if the dog looks unhealthy they might ask something. I always bring shot records. Has anyone ever been asked for pet records at the border?

I no longer get the Health Cert. for my dog when taking her to Baja since I've never been asked for it coming or going. I do however always carry the folder from the Vet with a current copy of her vaccinations including the Rabies Cert. Have never been asked for those, but it is a cheap "just in case".

Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

If you want to hear them ask for it, just leave it at home.

Not dogs or cats but .....

do goats need papers?
Last year while I was lined up to go into the US the car next to me had Baja plates and all of the seats were removed except for the drivers. The rest of the car was filled with 8 or more goats. It was sent to secondary and I have no idea what happened after that.
