Vizio antenna question
I recently bought a Vizio tv for our place in Bahia Asuncion. Any suggestions for an indoor antenna? I've looked online for info with conflicting
info. I'm basically looking to pick up any local signals.
Thanks in advance.

Over the air TV in BA? Where would the local signals be coming from?
TV is a VHF/UHF frequency that is "line of sight" transmission which means that unless the TV station has a transmitter on a high mountain IN SIGHT OF
YOUR ANTENNA, you won't be getting any TV signals.
I can't imagine TV in BA unless it's satellite feed.
BTW, just a bit of trivia
Antennae - the long "whiskers" coming off the heads of insects
Antenna (s)- a device to capture electromagnetic signals for radio TV and other things.

I had rabbit ears on a tv that came with my house. I got 2 stations from G.N., if I remember correctly. I do remember watching the 2008 summer
olympics on it.

Most small towns receive some TV in a program provided by the government and then they broadcast one to three channels for people who live in that
town. Before Sky and VE TV came into effect it was pretty popular and was usually monitored by the police station or some other official who
monitored what was being played. If you were in the middle of a Movie and something else came on that was of more interest to someone in charge, they
would change the channel and the end of your movie was gone. In San Bruno we get 3 channels total broadcast.

I have an older unamplified model of this antenna. It works good. The amplified model is probably better.

Have you looked into the Mohu Leaf? I have two, each with the plug-in booster, and from my house in Anaheim I can pick up stations from as far away as
Tijuana and Ventura.

Bajaboy, I've been hooked on tv since we had the first tv in our area Up North. Contrary to other opinions of the day,
my parents thought it could be a great learning experience. Their philosophy was... It's what YOU make of it.
Over the years, I've used 'Winegard' brand tv antennas in a few different remote applications...cabins in Canada/ND, several roaming RVs, a beach
home in Coyote Bay, Baja Sur, another further south. A fairly new model is out using an advanced technology called 'flat wave' costing about $90USD.
I can't vouch that it will work for Asuncion, but you might give it a try. If the signal is there, this unit will pick it up. There should be a tv
reception map available online for your area?..plus an outlet in San Diego for Winegard products, or online shipping at the very least.
Here's a website for some research.
http://www.winegard.com/get-free-tv/antenna-support/
Back in the day, I could receive a few over-the-air tv signals at Coyote Bay with my standard roof antenna. The sometimes spotty signals were
broadcast from Hermisillo, Sonora. If you liked Mexican soaps and cartoons, you would have been a fan.
In 1974, I had enough of Batman and went to a huge C-band satellite dish. Choosing from 30 or so satellites, I had a list of about 200 channels.
Batman was on 187 of them.

So, Bajaboy...I hope whatever you get works well. Get your youngsters some Batman costumes and enjoy.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Some things never change. I have about 200 channels now, and the same silly movie is on 187 of them.
ps. I don't think you need anything too fancy. Cheap rabbit ears will pick up the few stations you will ever get in the area.

A few things to consider. Depending on what your home is constructed of will affect your reception thru the walls. Since all the channels listed above
by Willard are VHF try a set of rabbit ears. Best reception will be at a window in the direction of the transmitter site. Also the higher you are the
better such as the second floor. If that fails you will need an outside antenna mounted to a pole, tower, or the roof. I haven't kept up with Mexican
TV but I assume all the channels listed above are analog, not digital. Digital will be harder to get in most cases as VHF digital does not pass thru
walls as easy as UHF and you have the cliff affect.

I bought a $30. indoor only antenna from Walmart. a few months ago. It was okay but not great and I am in the city of Tijuana. I then bought a $50.
Outdoor model (same brand) and it works much better even though I have only used it indoors. So I guess it matters how much you pay. They both have
a 120 volt power booster but I don't see any difference when it is powered or not.???
You didn't ask about this but, I have US satellite account with a duplicate dish and receiver SOB. Works well in Tijuana.

thanks for all of the responses....in all honesty, I don't really care about watching tv too much. But, I want to be able to watch Copa del Mundo so
an antenna is a must. I bought the one SFandH suggested. I'll let you know how it works out when I get down to BA next month.

and keep in mind that a co-ax cable plugged in to the tv and stretched out to the highest point will act as an antenna. attach a pole to the outside
and run the cable up it.

Dude, that's what bars are for!!
It's great going to local bars for major sporting events. Like minded fans, food that is too messy to make at home, etc., specifically fried foods.
And beer. Did I mention beer?
