New Alaska Airlines flight from Portland to Cabo!

Alaska Airlines will be flying direct from Portland Oregon to San Jose del Cabo from Nov.3 to April 27th. Great for the northern Nomads and during whale watching season too.

Exedia has flights around $450 return...wooo hooo.

I find it incomprehensible that there are no direct flights into La Paz from LAX. I keep hearing the excuse that there is not enough traffic to make it profitable yet I find that very difficult to believe. When I first moved to La Paz we had two airlines, Delta and Alaska. Delta dropped out and Alaska used that monopoly to gouge their customers by charging nearly double the ticket prices of the cost to go to SJD. Next they reduced flights to 3 days per week and used a smaller more economical Bombardier airplane instead of the 737's.

These flights were always near full capacity coming from and returning to LAX at nearly double the costs of a ticket to SJD yet they still claimed they were losing money. Instead they canceled flight to LAP and fly to LTO instead? It doesn't make any sense. It was reported in the Baja Citizen newspaper that our loss of airlines was the result of not enough hotel rooms. 3 new hotels have now opened since we started losing flights but hotel rooms are not the whole story. I would suggest that the Tourist Board examine the Visas that are collected at SJD. The Visa application requires that one identify their ultimate destination while in Mexico. I would wager that a large number of those flying into SJD have their ultimate destination listed as La Paz. Many have been flying into SJD simply because the fare is always at least $150 cheaper. If Alaska or Aeromexico can make daily flights into SJD with 737's and still be profitable I can't see why they couldn't fill their flights if they kept their fares to La Paz equal to the fares into SJD at least a couple of days per week.
