Bird Deterrent?

Do any of you Nomads know of a proven bird deterrent to keep seagulls and pelicans (and their crap) away? I know fishing line works well in some situations... Any other methods?

I tried a plastic owl but I still suspect the P-nche pelicans just had their way with her. Now I cover my boat with one of those cheap Walmart plastic tarps secured with bungee cords. It think the flapping in the wind has kept them away. Seems to be working for now.

reflective pie tins, tinsel, foil strips that can blow in the breeze.....

we are outfitting our two $35 million dollar F35b hangars with reflective balls that spin via solar power. I know, I don't believe it either but the hangars up the way are having good luck!

City of San Diego uses the spikes all over Balboa Park to keep the pigeons from roosting, but there's lot's of netting in the catalog too.

Try Recycled CDs. Hang a few from rigging. The reflections seem to disturb them.

I use them in my patio to keep birds from nesting in the rafters or flying into the glass doors.

There's a vessel fueling station here in L.A. Harbor that's trained their dog (Border Collie, I think) to keep ALL birds from landing on the station. Reported to have cost $10K. They say it's well worth it.;D

You should try these ideas. The farmers in central valley use them to keep the blackbirds away, but I'm not sure how successfully.

I know this dog Doc and he (she?) is amazing!!! Black and white and spotted...not sure of the breed. Really keeps the birds at bay (pun, kind of intended.) ;D

A good full-size tarp cover will do the trick and is washable (for your boat I surmise). Hassle putting on and taking off, but keeps the under-stuff clean.

I tried everything and nothing worked for more than a day or 2, pelicans are too dumb to be scared off easily. I put my boat in the marina, for some reason the birds stay off the boats there.

More boats to choose from, so there should be less birds per boat.

If you are looking for a bird deterrent for your boat, this ( the picture below) is what we saw on Les's best friend's boat in England. We found and bought two of them online. One ended up on the boat (which we sold to the fishing cooperative) and the other ended up protecting our pila. The breeze moves them and the birds do not like the movement.

When we first moved here, the fishermen thought we had electric shocks on our boat LOL....it was the only one with no birds sitting on it.

We use "gull sweeps". They are awesome. We tried everything else to keep the birds off our boat with varying success, but these did the job perfectly. We bought them in B.C. at a marine store...West Marine in the U.S. must sell them too.
