| Surfer & Young Son

Story from two surfers spent a half session today with:

An american in a wet suit with his approaching 4 year old son on his back. In a backpack, in a wetsuit,
 in a life jacket.

Guy was on a boogie board and the kid was stoked . . .
Smiling, talking of a whale he'd seen out here . . . father was talking to him, takin' care of him . . . it was cool.

Kid's gonna be a hell of a surfer with time.

The kid is also going to be a hell of a human being with a dad like that.

cool! I started getting my son used to the ocean by taking him body surfing. he'd wrap his arms around my neck and ride on my back as I swam out past
and under the waves. we'd get rested up outside and talk and hold our breath and dive to the bottom with our eyes open.

riding the waves in were the best. I'd have to remember that he couldn't hold his breath too long so the rides weren't very long! those were the daze!

I don't think that there is any better gift than a father teaching his kids respect for the ocean.

Had both my kids in the waves at a few months of age. Took them both out on boogie boards early on as well. Here is my four year old girl just a few
weeks ago in Bahia Asuncion tearing it up

All my three girls learned to swim in the bay at Estero Beach, Then learned about the waves and currents on the other side of the peninsula. Back in
the 70's. Lots of waterskiing in that bay then! I have pics, I will pull some out and try to post them.Water and babies is a natural combo! Edit to
include the 80's !
