Good thing they brought in the FBI! SDPD didn't seem to be getting anywhere. They didn't even figure out that the family had been murdered in their
home, and wasted a lot of time on speculation that they family had just up and left.

I thought CSIs would have been able to figure out pretty quickly that the family home was a murder scene...or have I just been watching too much TV?
Or maybe SDPD didn't even send the CSI squad in because they assumed the family had just walked away? In any case, it seems that SDPD pretty much
screwed up this investigation every which way, and its good that the FBI took over.

I'm glad someone finally caught the guy! I know, innocent until proven guilty...

Using a gun. Then taking them elsewhere to murder them. I know it's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback, but as this story was originally
unfolding, I had a hunch that it was related to business dealings.

Awesome!! Had a feeling it might have been him, since money was taken out of their joint account. Now if we could only find Gary Patton!!

They were probably transported to the site in the desert under gunpoint and killed there.

 Doc,
Have any theories about how that would have happened?

Hey! Maybe if we stir the pot some more we can turn this into another endless thread starring the usual suspects.

Yes Motoged, the suspect shows up with a few thugs with shotguns, tells the McStays to get into their vehicle, drives them out to the desert and
shoots them, then the thugs dig shallow graves. Not very complicated.

Well, that would be one theory but all the articles are stating that they were killed in their home.

How could you do that to two adults and two kids? Tell the parents that you are going to hurt the kids if they don't cooperate and make one of them
tie the others up, then kill them. It's happened before.

Not saying that's what happened here, just saying the authorities are saying they were killed in their home. The whole thing is just sad.
