The tundra is an even worse seller. Here let give it a try for you.

more room, more power, more options, about the same gas mileage (unless you get the new ecoboost, then better), more utility, etc

If you like a small cramped truck, and some do, the Tacoma is great.

I had to go downtown to the grocery store a bit ago. I thought I would do an survey of my own, using DK's scientific methodology. I traversed our 6 block main street and the grocery store parking lot and saw not ONE Toyota Tacoma. Most of the trucks were full size trucks which I was able to determine thanks to DK's repeated tutelage that they can be recognized because they are bigger than smaller trucks. There were three Amish buggies in the parking area. From this data I determined that at least in Custer County Colorado, there were NO Toyota Tacoma's sold and that the Amish buggy was the favored mid size HDUV. (horse drawn utility vehicle). I talked to Mr. Yoder, the elder, he said he knew of no plans to increase buggy production.....

What's the problem here... reading 101, I said here in Southern California, and not full size trucks.

I also took mental notes when I went out today on a drive to Encinitas and back (about 30 miles round trip)...

I saw 6 Tacomas, 4 Rangers, 1 Dakota, 1 S-10 (Chevy). That was just while driving and didn't write any of this down, so not scientific and I didn't count my truck. Ford quit the small truck market and I know two people who owned 4WD Rangers and neither were great trucks.

If you don't think the Tacoma is popular, or you don't see any, that doesn't change the facts.

My goal is that EVERYONE have a great Baja experience, and offering up my discoveries on what works in Baja is part of that. There are so many Tacoma driving Nomads compared to Rangers, Dakotas, S-10s, and Frontiers, that the case is closed in this court of public opinion... unless you have some strong evidence any of what I said is wrong.

David Toyotas are fine...but in the big scheme of things, at least right now, they are not the most popular truck. People are buying full size trucks...They get more for their money.

Continuing to narrow your scope is kinda like saying a stripper and hooker is the best woman around.... there are more in this world than small trucks.

Strippers and Hookers have their place, maybe not the best woman to scramble up some eggs but they definitely serve a noble purpose.:lol:

you did not provide any evidence that what you said is right. the case may be closed in your mind, but i think the plaintiff has appealed the decision to a higher court.

i think you should post a poll so nomads can tally what vehicles they drive, and post their opinions of toyota tacomas.

We could have a whole thread on the merits of strippers and hookers. Probably some expertise here somewhere.

Our resident expert might be the Buddha, from a spiritual outlook, of course...DK's logic is flawed....When I go out looking for Tacomas, and don't see any, well...they are there....I musta just missed em....When he goes out, he see's nothing but....Like I have said before, this whole discussion is so subjective, it's ludicrous.....

It is so funny, I can't help but feel sad... I guess this is just a game you got me hooked into, since you ignore the facts or statements I have made: No big trucks included in what I was talking about, not in all states just around here in SoCal, nothing wrong with others!

The Baja plant makes Tacomas, that's all and that's the thread subject.

Maybe the "SoCal" is to blame..... Rarely is there anything reasonable coming from "that" place!

I see Tacomas and Tundras all the time when out and about. I have a Tacoma and I have a GMC. I like them both for different reasons. I prefer the Tacoma for hard core Off-Roading. There are places I'll go with it I won't go in my GMC, mostly due to it's size.

In case you haven't noticed Tio most thinks that start in CA end up being accepted and implemented across the USA, good and bad.

The Tacoma is a military hero.

From Wikipedia:

American Special Forces Use:

During Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom, multiple Toyota Tacomas have been observed in use by special forces units of the U.S. Army. Typically, they have been Double Cab models, with SR5 and TRD packages.

Despite the fact that the Hilux, from which the Tacoma is descended, is extremely common in the Middle East, the special forces found it to be easier to purchase Tacomas from American dealerships, modify them appropriately, and ship them to their areas. The gasoline engine used is significantly quieter than the diesel engines used in the HMMWV and some Hilux models. These were modified by eliminating the factory radio, along with almost all exterior lights and door buzzers. The front headlights have been modified to work in IR, in order to work with night vision. The engines are unmodified, but the vehicles have been fitted with brush guards, Warn winches, and a rollbar with a machine gun mount.[23]

The trucks in the pictures look like the Toyota Hilux instead of the Tundra or Tacoma.

Splitting hairs? Have no dog in this fight

http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/85398-Differen...

Full disclosure. When I am in Baja I always try and have a friend with a Toyota (some of the nicest folks you will ever meet drive them) along to tow me when I get stuck in my 1999 F-250 7.3 L 4x extended cab 8' bed with a 4 wheel pop up camper and 315k miles rig. That way I can keep tire pressure up and not have to hassle with that whole 'let the air out - put the air back in' rigamarow. Leaves more time for cold beers (anything but rotgut Pacifico preferred) and tequila! :saint:
Its all good as long as its all Baja! :dudette:
