THE PUNTA BANDA - PURE UTV "150" IS COMING!!!

For immediate press release…

AVE RACING/BAJA PROMOTIONS & EJIDO CORONEL
ESTEBAN CANTU SIGN 2015 “PURE UTV” AGREEMENT

Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico – Feb 18, 2015 – Officials from Ejido Coronel Esteban Cantu and AVE Racing/Baja Promotions’ Lou Peralta, sign a multi-year agreement/contract back in November 2014, that will allow AVE/BP the exclusive right to use their Ejido for two events per year for the sole purposes of including two events as part of the AVE/BP 2015 PURE UTV OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES. A formal press conference was scheduled in Ensenada February 18, at the San Nicolas Hotel (Race Headquarters), where all parties met and made the announcement to the National and State media of Baja California.

The first event in Baja will take place May 16, 2015 with the running of the PURE “125” consisting of five, 27-plus mile laps inside the Ejido. The course that is already available, is unique because of the varying terrain that it will be, according to race promoter, Lou Peralta; “spectacular.”
Peralta commented, “We have found possibly the best course in Baja, bar-none. It has everything that is Baja, except perhaps the deep silt. It will feature sand washes and canyons, tight trails and hard-packed, two rail roads, a beach run, hill climbs and down hills, all in one lap. A little bit of everything that you see in Baja but in short spurts inside the Ejido.”
Peralta also added that special “Spectator Areas” will be set aside to allow the thousands of spectators expected from Ensenada and other parts of the Baja Peninsula, to watch this unique and epic event, without getting in the way of race traffic, as often happens when racing in Baja.

In addition to the PURE UTV “125” event at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Gran Carrera “GP” is set in the morning, at 10 a.m. AVE/Baja Promotions will go retro and bring back the old Gran Carreras “GP” event for motorcycles and ATVs, also on the same 26-mile circuit. This all started as a result of one of the old-time racers with Baja Promotions, San Felipe Bob Surmon, asking Peralta if he would consider adding a Gran Prix event along with the PURE UTV race but as a separate event, as part of a BP reunion.
Peralta liked the idea and before he knew it, “Over one hundred and fifty of the old Baja Promotion motorcycle and ATV racers were on board. It took one mention in Facebook,” Peralta said, “and suddenly we have a lot of our friends who used to race with us, coming to the event. It’s going to be fun seeing many of the American and Mexican racers who used make our Gran Carreras and make them a blast.”

The second event in Baja, as part of the Series and also a second GP, will take place September 12, possibly using the same course but this time going the opposite direction, which in fact becomes an entirely new course.

Ejido Esteban Cantu has never been used for any type of event so this marks the inaugural event to be held there. Quite a feat for AVE/BP Racing, to obtain such a unique area for their UTV racing and now motorcycles and ATVs. The Ejido extends from the well-known tourist attraction; La Bufadora, all the way around southwest almost to Santo Tomas.

The other events, which are part of the PURE UTV Off-Road Desert Series consist of the PURE “150” March 28-California City; May 16 in Ensenada; July 18, the PURE “150” again In California City; and returning to Ensenada for the PURE “200” September 12, then completing the PURE UTV season with the PURE “250” a double points race, October 24 in California City.

There is a “Special Award” set up for the two Mexico events. The ENSENADA KUP will be awarded to the fastest and the highest finisher in the two Ensenada events.

On the Thursday before the event, racers from the United States who wish to take advantage of this service, will be met by authorities in Tecate, Baja California, where racers will be escorted from Tecate to Ensenada by Federal Police and members of the State and Municipality Tourism offices to Ensenada.
Pre-running will open Friday before the event from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Registration and Tech inspection takes place in front of race headquarters, Hotel San Nicolas, from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The PURE UTV race will start at Noon. Motorcycles and ATVs start at 10 a.m. (2-hour GP). The award ceremony is scheduled back at the San Nicolas Hotel at 11 am. Sunday morning.

The 2015 PURE Series also features the rearranging of a couple of classes and a brand new class for “Turbos” only. Gone is the PURE 700 Class which has been amalgamated with the “850” Class, and this year AVE/BP Racing has split the 900cc and 1000cc Classes to make it even more competitive.
All classes, except for the Bone Stock 850 and 1000 classes, which are for Sportsman only, offer Pro and Sportsman categories.
Latest addition: Starting with the March 28 PURE “150” AVE/Baja Promotions has added two classes to its series. The “170” Division is a kids class and Peralta has added the “610” Class for kids 6 to 10 years old and the “113” Class for 11 to 13 year-olds.

More details can be obtained by visiting: www.averacing.com or contacting AVE/BP at info@averacing.com or P.O. Box 2141, California City, CA 93504.

It's a reunion so to speak of the old Baja Promotion GP series of the late 80s and early 90s. I'll be down and my son will be there racing along with Tim Morton and many of the old gang.
