Adios Carlos Slim
Amancio Ortega, the Spanish entrepreneur owner of the clothing store chain Zara, is now the third richest man in the world, surpassed only by the
tycoons Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
According to a report agency Bloomberg , the founder of Inditex SA, the retail world's largest fashion, has increased his fortune to 68,000 million
dollars, which means an increase of 79 percent since March 2012, when the Bloomberg Billionaires Index opened. Inditex operates more than 6,600 stores
under different brands, including Zara, Massimo Dutti and Pull & Bear.
The recent success of Ortega, 79, has eclipsed that of his closest contenders on the list: Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim and American billionaires
Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Slim's fortune, fourth on the list, has decreased 1 percent, to 67,300 million, while Gates has increased by 38 percent
and 62 percent of Buffett.
Another fact that speaks about the entrepreneurial achievements of Ortega is added 7.000 million to his fortune from the first day of 2015, while in
that time Buffett, Gates and Slim have lost 8,000 million dollars altogether.
Inditex sales have increased 31 percent since 2012, to 24,000 million in the year ending in January 2015. Since Inditex went public in 2001, Ortega
has received more than 3,000 million in dividends and has profits invested in commercial properties in major cities in Europe and the United States,
said Bloomberg .
Ortega, now 79 years, is the son of a railway employee . In 1975 he founded Zara with his wife Rosalia Mera, in the room of the couple's home. In the
80 Zara it spreads throughout Spain and began to settle abroad.
Spanish born Ortega is also the employer of distributors world's richest, followed by Swede Ingvar Kamprad, founder of Ikea and eighth richest person
in the world, and the widow of one of the heirs of the US chain Wal-Mart, Khristy Walton, who is the tenth richest person and the first woman on the
list.

First off, your math is wrong by several zeros. The numbers are in billions, not millions.
That said, and I'm not the biggest fan of Carlos Slim, although he is a self-made man starting as a cab driver in Mexico City, I don't know of any
allegations against Slim about using child labor sweatshops as have been made about Ortega.

Hold your horses....I have heard Brits and Euros use the term 68,000 million instead of 68 billion. Perfectly legitimate.

a billion is not a billion
the US and UK know one billion as a thousand millions
Spanish and many other languages define a billion as a million millions (million squared)
what the English speakers know as one billion is a milliard for most other languages, that's why you see values like 68,000 millions in Mexico for 68
(US) billion.
As if miles and pounds were not old fashioned enough - the US has to have it's own numbers system.
But to be fair, the French started the mess. And since the US loved the French so much, they copied the 19th century French billion. But the French
don't use it any longer.
so, the Mexican version of Carlos Slim's fortune would be $0.068 billón de dólares

Like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, who enabled us poor people with little money to communicate as never before on boards like Nomads. Or Jeff Bezos who
started Amazon that revolutionized the way we shop conveniently, as well as many others who have made life easier and reaped the rewards of their

The biggest beef about Slim was that after he acquired Telmex from the government, he fought bitterly to maintain a monopoly on telephone services.
With the amazing growth of the internet, and cellular options, he was forced to relent. He is certainly not a thief and, in fact is responsible for
huge charity work.
Reminds me of on a smaller scale of Aramburo in BCS. A former honcho in BCS politics (state governor when it got statehood), he fought bitterly to
retain a monopoly on the supermarket trade in the state.
Back in the day, there were several major supermarkets in mainland Mexico, but the only option in BCS was Aramburo or mom and pop stores. How'd that
work out?

No matter how Carlos acquired his fortune, it has to be frustrating trying to keep track of how many zeros to put after the first seven figures!
I can track my net worth with a property tax bill and an ATM (and of course a small fire safe)
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

I agree, but it's a hard sell to the many poor and unemployed.
Anyway...Mexico is showing their discontent in way that may grow to Baltimore intensity.
One more point about Don Carlos. Without Salinas, in the privatization of government monopolies, awarding him exclusives in telecommunications,
he'd still be driving that cab, and anyone who thinks Carlos isn't still paying Carlos, is naďve.

I am impressed that you know so many of these wealthy people that you can say with confidence that they are thieves. Or is there just the slightest
possibility that you see the world in such a way that anyone who possesses more than you, got it illegitimately? You are letting your little bias

yes, I am old, but very immature. And you are right, most people own more than I do.
I was not focussing on the hard working people who are wealthier. I am happy for them. Not even focussing on the self made millionaire. Happy for
them, too. Not so much for their neglected children, but that's another topic.
Don't fool yourself, if you have/make a a few million a year - you are still nobody.
My focus was on the few people on the planet who own almost everything. They did not get it by working hard.
Correction, they work very hard. They get home exhausted. It is tough to screw so many humans at once. And the hard work to buy politicians to
guarantee your safety and future.
I apologize for venting my frustration over the fact that we can't change that everyone under a million or so gets screwed.
But that's not on your radar anyway. You are only upset when the road through San Quintin is blocked by some badly dressed slaves. I bet you are on
the side of the growers who fly their own airplanes to their humble ranchos.

History continues to show Karl Marx was right. There is a constant struggle between the ownership class and the working class, and the state is a
tool of the ownership class. Ultimately, CapitLism is its own worst enemy, the ownership class is ultimately overthrown after the working class
reaches its limit.
Organized revolution is necessary to overthrown the ownership class that is exploiting the proletariat.
What I find fascinating is that many of you proletariat a middle class that has been hoodwinked into thinking you are in control of your own destiny
and that capitalism is rewarding you. You are tools of the man, you slave for mega corporations owned by the 1%, and you are foolishly happy working
in a soulless office building, taking respite in your measly 4 weeks of vacation in Baja, happily voting GOP, unknowingly repeatedly electing the
tools of the 1% puppet masters.
