We just heard from our friends in BOLA and the word is 8 people associated with these events have been arrested. Its' hard to be sure about the
number but this is positive indicator.
Still have not heard any verification of Judicial involvement. I would like to know who to watch out for. Anyone?

No reports from recent visitors.
Within the last 3 weeks I have had motoring friends staying at mi casa from Tijuana, Ensenada, San Jose del Cabo, and King City, Ca. A reunion of
sorts between old Baja fans.
3 Mexican plates, 1 California. Naturally, they all drove that section of highway, 3 southbound and 1 northbound. None reported any strange
happenings after I emailed them about the troubles in the area in question. Thier trips went okay and I'm extremely glad they all made the trip
unscathed.
I have other amigos from Rosarito arriving tomorrow for the Easter holidays and will quiz them also. I'll be making a drive to San Diego soon and
will visit with friends residing in the area to see what the local scuttlebutt has to say.
Let's hope this was an anomaly and the perps have been caught. Baja Sur community businesses do not need this kind of publicity.

This is a Mexican issue that, according to the article posted here, has been going on for a long time.

The mention of Judicial involvement. We do not have any specifics about that. Other than north of Ensenada I have never had any problems with
Federales, soldiers or local police. The soldiers I see on the road and near my house have been great. Same with the cops I know in the small towns
I frequent. I do not have any experience with federales. Just wondering if I need to be more careful with these guys.

And somehow a thread about clarifying what, if any, criminal activity was occurring South of El Rosario, and how folks can be protected, somehow
becomes a gun show? Although I'm having a little trouble deciphering the previous post, I'm guessing that contraband in either direction is gonna
cause grief.

Just stay alert
There use to be a military checkpoint just South of El Rosario but it's been awhile since it's been manned.
Just a generalization but all the military checkpoints look the same -- and I don't expect any checkpoints between El Rosario and Punta Prieta.
My first instinct if I were to see a checkpoint would be to assess that it is a real checkpoint. (A ambush checkpoint might have 2-4 guys with
guns standing around, etc.) I'd probably turn back if I could before approaching that kind of situation and getting help somewhere.
Convoy is not a bad idea but doesn't help if no one is armed.
Not sure I'd stop for accidents either -- unless it looked real. A stranded motorist wouldn't qualify -- unless gringo. Even then, assess the
situation.
As always, have your ''suspicious meter'' turned on and err on the side of caution.
US Marines: providing enemies of America an opportunity to die for their country since 1775.
What I say before any important decision.
F*ck it.

Last time we headed south through that area we had a hand held VHF radio scanning. Who knows who that have planted where, and it's just a guess that
they might use a VHF to communicate---but just a wild guess.
But yea, don't stop, stay alert, and I drive like I have somewhere to go!

Nope, David..the humor is lost here. And...it's a bad news day back east. I did not know that when I posted. I'm sensitive to that.

I'm sorry about the lack of humor here. And the back east thing, well, what can I say. I still loved that Hog-Leg though!
