10:00am
Can't get out of La Paz to go north
The new overpass at the airport exit is just a bit not long enough.
On the Chametla side there is a LOT of fast moving water, probably coming from the mountains to the south where it is obviously still raining pretty
good.
My best guess is at least a few hours before it is passable.

I called a friend who lives in San Jose; they live on the West side of the Highway, in the area up from the prinicipal entrance off the highway to
Downtown. They assure they are fine, although no electric and no water, their tianco blew, and the city water isn't running yet. Apart from that, they
obviously had phone service, were cleaning up and of good frame of mind. They have more than 20 years cleaning up after Baja storms, they are experts
at doing so.
Of course tried to call home to Los Barriles, phone rang at La Casa de Vos, (no pick up), At home at Buenas Aires, not even a phone ring. I called my
Daughter's Mother in Law in Buena Vista, of course no answer. So, the silence continues to assure me that they are dealing with no power and plenty of
water clean up and I bet some wind did some damage to someone, Ni Modo.
I got to unplug now, packed and on my way to the Tuxla Airport.
Best of Luck to Judy, Osprey and those in the East Cape who still haven't checked in. I know, I know, this is typical Baja weather.

I called our friends in Baja Matires, near Los Barriles. Report is; heavy rain and lots of wind. No response for all other phones in area. Info will
start to trickle out later in the day. Joanna

I'm certainly no weatherman but does it appear to others that that the satellite photos show Henriette is actually heading slightly northwest up the
SOC and not northeast as forecast by the NHC??? This could be very bad if she stays over hot water, no?

Rain is sure needed up north here. TJ is drying up and of course could use a good washing off. Hope we get some out of this.

Centenario 11 AM
No impassable sections heading north from Centenario towards Comitan...but a LOT of standing water along the hwy at most dirt roads creating
underwater mud bogs!!! Talked with someone who tried to get into Chametla from Comitan/Centenario area & water over the hwy made it impassable
for his Suzuki at the North edge of Chametla...a few higher clearance vehicles were crossing, but from Lencho's pics (thank you Lencho!) they won't
make it into La Paz! My builder's stuck in La Paz & he talked with the Highway Patrol who told him they opened "the dam" (WHAT dam...we got a dam??) creating that major runoff at the arroyo in Fidipaz
and that they plan to reopen the highway at that point around 2 PM today. Me thinks there will still be too much natural runoff through that arroyo
to make that section of the hwy passable anytime today!
oldlady....that brown casa is still clinging to the hillside by it's fingertips!!! I took a few laps in your pool! but I gotta tell ya those unsecured foam
blocks on the lot behind you are history...well, all but for one and a half!
Naturally, a lot of the roads running up & down the hill have large cuts carved out of them, but all the ones I tried were passable. No workers!
PS According to Hwy Patrol...La Paz airport expected to be reopened later this afternoon/evening....getting to it might be a whoooole
'nuther story!

I touched on that subject on last Thursdays BCS radio show and explained about El Cajoncito (the dam), you see, back in September of 1976 La Paz
suffered the second wors natural disaster of México next to the 1985 Mexico City earthquake, "El Huracan Liza" were about 20 colonias just
dissapeared, due to the arroyo that comes from El Cajoncito, back then there was no canal as you have right now, the one you mentioned by Fidepaz and
rumor has it that the dam was intentionaly blown up by the military in order to save the more affluent people living in the downtown area, diverting
the water to the poorer newer settlements of La Paz, there is no accurate number as for the people that perished but many were found buried intheire
homes, theire cars as they tried to escape and many many bodyes were floating right there on the bay. It was horrilble. Now you know you have a da.

From the BajaPony:
1. It is Wednesday morning and the sun has finally come out. The Hurricane passed right over us again but not near as bad as John last year but with
mucho mucho agua. The arroyo at Buenos Aires is still a river but the San Bartolo has gone down. No major injuries reported so far and damage in
moderate. Winds only 80 mph so not much destroyed but as I said a lot of water. The arroyo passed over the bridge north of town but it is still
intact. They might have to add a few more meters on the north side. The main road, 20 de Noviembre, survived well and did its job by draining most of
the water through the Costa Brava road. Generally speaking just a lot of clean up needed in town. My Compadre Rene Cortez is at this moment out in the
Agua de la Costa area checking his clients and promised to bring me a detailed report of the area later today. Electric might be back within three
days and water soon after. All in all things are not bad and we should thank God for once again watching over us. The road to La Paz should be open by
tomorrow. Haven't heard about south yet but maybe later today. This year I suggest you not come down unless already planned as your gardeners can
probably handle the clean up. More later if I see this published as I not certain of Cheryl's schedule
Saludos,
Dennis C. Riley

Is that one of the huge cuts you see in the hillside when looking towards La Paz from the Los Planos road near the La Ventana turnoff ?? This would
drain away from La Paz ?
