"Conocido" is the best address in smaller towns. I guess that's equivalent to "General Delivery" in the states. If they can't find you they hold it at the post office or, as in the case of El Centenario, the sheriff's office. Mine is delivered to my house even though I have no street address other than the name of of the cross-streets. Works for me!

USPS is not the Problem


The mail problem has to do with the "Receiving" country's postal system, which is erratic in Mexico and totally corrupt in the Philippines. You're in great hands with the USPS, not so with the others. I'll still gamble with First Class mail on things which are not of great value or can be replaced, but I sure wouldn't do it with a document or package that I absolutely had to receive.

Apartado is spanish for po box not apartment which I believe is departemente.
I live on Calle sin nombre y Calle sin nombre in the barrio La Choya and that is the extent of my address. Leaves UPS scratching their head.
