In the mag bay flats ,at low tide , you can pick the clams right out of the mud. Filled a 44 qrt. cooler with butter and manilla clams within one
hour.
Even at regular tides, you can rake them in in 4 inches to 2 ft of water. Funny that the natives never seem to bother with them.

Look for the pelos verdes...
A few years ago the guys at Santa Rosaliita showed me how to watch, when the last 1/8" or less of a wave was receding, for tiny "V" marks in the
water. If the source was tiny green hairs, the hairs were attached to the hinge of a Pismo Clam.
Without a clam fork, we easily picked-up a dandy chowder right in front of our camp. We've done the same thing at San Quintin, but the clams were
more scarce.
Green hairs below.

Clam update...
We clammed the south end of Bahia Conception Saturday. Tons of butter clams, but reports of a resident thief are true. We had nothing of great value
in the car, but mistakenly locked it.
The thief at least broke a small window. Lost was a pair of shoes, my favorite pair!
I bought those shoes in Ciudad Constitution. I'll have to go back...hope I don't get another tcket.
The clams were good, some steamed, some just tossed on the grill.

Beware at south beach. got expense clams. One side window $ 380.00 us, one cell phone, binox, and one digital camera. Parked on beach but they broke
window on other side of car. Had to belly crawl to car for me nor to see them. Leave someone with car at all times

The beach at the upper end of Bahia Concepcion, near the abandoned trailer park, is notorious for rip-offs. I can only believe that someone who lives
nearby lies in wait at low tide for people who come clamming. We know now to park our car so that we can watch the doors and windows. One time the
guy showed up as soon as we put our buckets down and began digging. He ran when we spotted him. The last time I went the military was there. I told
them what a bad place it was and they stayed there and watched our car the entire time we clammed, then packed up and left when we were
done...........I didn't even have a chance to say thanks. Rip-offs are a problem all around the bay, but especially in this place. Maybe the
solution is not to have ANYTHING valuable in your car and just leave it wide open. Or tie your dog to the bumper.

Hmmm.. Conception Bay southend clamming beach is getting notorious for rip-offs? Guess we are very lucky because we have never lost a thing and never
even locked our rigs. Was there yesterday dropping off some hitchhikers and saw nothing strange or anyone around at all.
Sorry to hear there is a thief working that area. Maybe we will work a little 'sting' operation there rather than go hunting doves?
We did exactly that some years back, just below the microwave tower south of Mulege. The Honeymoon Beach Bandit caught in a sting by a policeman
hiding in the shower of a parked motorhome. That thief spent the rest of his ...er...honeymoon...in the prison near Sta. Rosalia. Ah...you gotta
love the variety of Baja times.

Pompano, I hope you take on the assignment. Our pop-up camper has a make-shift patch job where these guys sliced it open a couple of years ago. They
trashed the inside looking for stuff and finally left with a couple of ancient cameras. We had just taken a short walk down the beach with our coffee
cups...........And now I hear stories of cash being taken from glove boxes in locked cars and of Don Alley's window being smashed in. I would spend a
lot more time there if I wasn't afraid to leave my vehicle unattended. Now we're just a little more paranoid when we camp anywhere, and put the top
of the camper down and lock it up tight whenever we take a walk or go swimming. You won't see them until they appear out of nowhere and before you
can catch them they disappear into the desert. They have their system fine tuned. I heard about the Homeymoon Beach bandit. Glad they caught him!
Now if someone can just nab these guys...........................

Let's Do It!
As soon as Paula gets her window fixed, we can use her car as bait! We'll put Lucky and Fillmore inside, and uh, well, I don't know. Maybe damage his
hearing?
Getting the window fixed:
So we were refered to a body guy here. "He does great work. He'll fix it up like new."
We go see him, he says , sure, no problem, just pull your car in here in my shop. "Ok," he says, "Give me the glass and I'll put it in." What?! We have to get the glass? "Can't you order it?"
No, he can't order glass for a Honda.
But we phoned a place in La Paz, they can have it in abot 10 days. We put 1/2 in their account ($100) and maybe, while we are in La Paz getting it
fixed, I can find a swell pair of shoes to replace the one's "M" (an initial left in the dust on the rear window) stole.
But I got three yellowtail and a grouper (!) yesterday so things are looking good!

bajajudy...si, red tides were here
This photo was taken about the time you passed through, Judy.
WARNING TO NEWBIES: RED TIDES....Definetely NOT a good time to be eating shallow water clams.
Now the red tide is gone...for awhile. Maybe I will post a red tide report from now on just to keep people from getting sick. I ate a few years ago
during a red tide and can recall quite clearly how much I thought I was going to die.
