Braulio 10-4 on Ray. We met him at breakfast and we talked for about an hour. He's got a lot of good info between the ears. Very friendly too.

I have stayed at Cielito Lindo, the Old Mill and the newer place next door to the Old Mill, called something like Don Joses, can't remember exactly.
Cielito Lindo is loaded with funky atmosphere but it has gotten too funky now, the rooms are crappy and moldy which is a shame because it's a real
piece of history. I like the Old Mill, the owners are friendly, the Old Mill is nice and the bay is pretty there. The rooms are reasonably priced and
comfortable. The restaurant is neat and rustic. Last time the Old Mill was full we stayed at the motel next door, it was clean and low priced and I
would not hesitate to stay there again.

I think the place next door is Don Eddie's...? If so, I hope they have replaced the hardened slabs with real mattresses.
The goose watching and fishing is okay in the mouth of the bay.

We are going to stay a night in San Quintin soon, and I sure appreciate this info! We have stayed in so many bad places there. Cielito Lindo is just
too in need of an update, although the restaurant (crab) is good.
So I'm thinking that the Old Mill or Don Eddies are the places to syay, and on another thread I'm wanting to eat at Los Jardines. Are they on the
same road off the highway? I'm confused... but it sounds as though the Old Mill restaurant would be good too.

Viejo Molino (Old Mill)
In and about July 4th, 1994, we trailered a boat down to San Quintin to the Viejo Molino.
San Quintin was full of cars and shops with broken windows. The explanantion was that the ranchers hadn't paid wages to the workers because the
exchange rate wasn't good enough (i.e., they kept their money in dollars and didn't want to convert to pesos).
As a result, the campesinos had a riot in town. When we passed through, we saw several serious and armed military.
The proprieter at that time of the Viejo Molino told us that he was an Orange County, CA expat, he told us that he used to run several discos up there
in the '70s, including one that was on the corner of Katella Ave. and Harbor Blvd. ('Sunshine Company?', 1/2 mile from Disneyland) .
He assured us that the Mexican government had reversed the ban on gambling, that he was in the process of building a casino out on the peninsula there
that would bar the entrance of Mexican nationals (so to remove the objections of the church). He also had elaborate plans for a time share/condo
development on the Viejo Molino property.
Anyone else know about this?

OLD MILL
Last time that I was there, struck up a conversation with the guy running the place. Seems he also was from Carson City, NV and married a Mexican
National. Her dad actually owned the restaraunt and hotel, and was developing a small residential complex just north of the Old Mill site on the
coast.
Lodging was great (had a room with a fireplace....also came "furnished" with a 6 month old German Shepard puppy, I guess the camp dog. Can also get
rooms with small kitchens. Bay views at sunrise and sunset are excellent. Restaraunt food was outstanding....have been there several times, will go
back again....but will also explore several of the "off the beaten track" restaraunts.

I had a great barbequed rib dinner at the Old Mill on a trip last year. A large rack and delicious. I have always liked the bayside atmosphere and
talking to the panga fishermen about their catches. As an added treat, we always seem to meet old friends who are staying there also. A good choice
near San Quentin. Will stop there soon going north.

Over the past 10 yrs we have stayed at the Old Mill half a dozen times, also La Pinta and Cielito Lindo. My vote is the Old Mill. The eatery next door
has been thru a few incarnations over the same period ( a couple years back it was closed down entirely); but we've always had good food there as
well. In fact, we are planning to spend a few days in early April. If things have gone sour; please post a notice. Thanks

If you stay at the Old Mill they can give you directions to Los Jardines and they used to have free margarita coupons too.

Cielito Lindo is the worst place that we have stayed in Baja. Gene arranged a free room there for us the last year that he and Laura did the Baja Bash
at the Wet Buzzard. We felt ripped off. We have stayed with groups from the South Campos at the Old Mill for years and always had a pleasant stay.
Nancy and Jim are very tolerent. We will take a group there in the spring with a night at El Jardines.

In San Quintin we normally stay in Motel Uruapan. It is very simple motel, but has free wifi (signal is rather weak) and good shower and clean room.
Secure parking too. I am impressed that they haven't raised their price for two + years when many other places have upped their rates. I think it
was 300 pesos for double.

Jardines is one of the better properties you will find in Baja, let alone San Quintin. They have a great restaurant next door. Just be forewarned that
they do not have many rooms and do often fill up. So, making a reservation is advised.

Hola, i stayed at the old mill at the end of october, 2009 and fished for one day. the old mill hotel was open but the restaurant at don eddie's was
only sporatically open and the small market was also the same and fortunately, i had enough supplies that i didn't have to go to town for some
groceries.
the old mill restaurant is being very slowly refurbished and is not serving any meals or drinks. also, the campground/rv area just southerly is no
longer and pedro's pangas has also moved.
i saw on the internet that don eddie's was also for sale, true or not, i don't know.
Jardines for lunch was very good but i was told by the old mill owners that it wasn't serving breakfast.
two years ago, i camped at cielito lindo and the generator was only " very " sporatically on which meant there was no running water in the
bathrooms. most times, the water was muddy to murky anyway as i was told the water comes from wells and the community bathroom degraded over the
years.
a fishing word of caution: if you use tiburon's pangas, you need to be very explicit on what you want to do about your fishing. i booked them for one
day and was told $ 200.00 u.s. for the day. when i returned from the fishing trip, i was told $ 300.00 u.s. as i had trolled for tuna. the $ 200.00
u.s. fee was for just close-in fishing. trolling was additional.
we only trolled intermittently for about an hour, how much more fuel would a four stroke honda use ? surely not $ 100.00 u.s. worth !!! the owner of
the old mill said they are notorious for doing that.
i hope i didn't step on anyones thread.
BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

We like both La Villa de San Quintin and Los Cirios.
Traveling at this time of year I'd go with La Villa because their rooms are heated. We stayed at Los Cirios once in the winter and the room was
chilly - no heating. This was a couple of years ago, so it may have changed??? I'd first check on the heating (or lack thereof) before I'd stay
there again in the winter.

My favorite is Don Diegos, just north of San Quintin. Clean rooms, very quiet, great restaurant, friendly owners, pet friendly, an did I mention great
restaurant. Try the shrimp tacos, fajitas, or the babyback ribs. You won't be disappointed.

Hotel Villa de San Quintin
Someone asked for add'l web links...:
This is the link for the SQ "Hotel Villa de San Quintin"
http://www.hotellavilla.biz/sanquintin/
I stayed there last winter en route N., and it was very clean, nice, clean efficient restraunt on site (good food, good value), and the parking lot
was large and secure.
Clean linnens, clean bathrooms, nice TV, WiFi, potable water in the room.... etc.
Reservation staff and on site staff were very friendly and bi-lingual.... and they encouraged my evolving Espanol :-).
It was just off of the main road / hwy so it was also convenient since I was in late and up and on the road early...
I'd love to try the Old Mill one of these days when I'm travelling at a more relaxed pace.
Safe and fun travels to you !
Its all just stuff and some numbers.
A day spent sailing isn\'t deducted from one\'s life.
