This year, by the third day of Semana Santa, the access to the boat ramp at Santispac was completely covered with tents. No way to get a boat in the
water there for the rest of the week. You wouldn't want to expose your tires to the excrement anyway, even if there were a clear path to the launch
ramp.
One year, a few lifetimes ago, I unwittingly flew to mazatlan, with reservations. When I arrived, I thought to myself, OK...I'll make the best of it
and go with the flow. Partytime!
I met a woman and after a few margaritas, we decided to go skinnydipping right in front of the hotel. Bright lights were illuminating the water, but
it was late. I thought no one would notice, or if they did they wouldn't care. We were splashing, laughing and carrying on as new romances are apt to
do. All of a sudden we looked towards the shore. There must have been fifty people and a uniformed policia all waving at us. Oh oh....busted! They
were frantically waving the "come here" signal. Well, they wouldn't go away and we had to come in sometime, especially if the night were to progress
the way I was hoping. We eventually swam/stumbled in and had to "face the music" naked. We ran for our clothes as the crowd and the policia ran up to
us shouting, "hay animales alla". I said, "Que, que que? Que tipa? They said, "Tiburones". Sharks.
I would say we got lucky! But I couldn't say that for the way the rest of the night turned out. When we got to my hotel, the clerk reached for my room
key in the pigeonhole behind the front desk. Hey! There was no key there.
I said, "Oh oh!" and we ran up to the room. The door was locked but I could hear voices in there. They were having a party in my room!! I banged on
the door and a disheveled looking young couple of gringos ran past us and down the stairs. Inside, the room was filled with empty bottles and trash
and my bed.....well, my bed was a tangle of wet, sandy sheets. I was peeed and tired and my companion wanted to leave. We agreed to try again the next
day but alas, I never saw her again.
So, go ahead, enjoy Semana Santa. I mean, after all, it is all about Easter.
