Are those lichens on the cactus in your first shot ?

Really like Bob H s' "more green!"

Those of you that certainly have a particular knack for composition should start cataloging this stuff-- ie . "spines"

The small hairy spines are called glochids. Worse than the big needles. Many cactus have them.
That particular Cardon was very young, about 4 feet tall and growing quickly. That is why they were so visible. As the cactus gets older they are shed when the cactus gets too dry or blown off by the wind.

This one was taken just seconds after one of my friends contemplated what it would be like to climb up a cardone and almost put her and right on the spines. :lol:

Took this shot on a rainy day in February in the arroyo just south of El Rosario. I'm not sure what it is. Light was overcast.
